It was worth waiting until 9 AM when we could enter. We walked down a long promenade, with wild poppies to our right and dwelings of the nuns to our left, to a small and beautiful chapel. We continued to the tower, and sat nearby at a small table for our snack, WE were fortunate to hear the bells of... More

The Russian church of the ascension is as close to the top of the Mount of Olives as it gets. To go inside, you have to enter a small alleyway and then press the bell at a green gate nr. 9. Behind that, a surprisingly large, lush and peaceful garden opens up. The church inside is very gorgeous in an... More

Andy and Wendy: Well worth a visit - beautiful church and tower (can't go up) with a view all the way to the Dead Sea. Nuns are a bit unfriendly, but a delightful old monk. Men should wear long trousers and women wear dresses to avoid getting a word. Bit hard to find: walk up the road from the Mount... More

Well-cared and beautiful church with some historical meaning to Russian orthodox. Not as crowded as some other churches on Mount of Olives but nevertheless it's not to miss!

The Russian Orthodox compound is not always open to the general public but is for Russians. It is a beautiful complex upon an area with rich Christian history. and fabulous views as it is on Mt.of Olives.

This is the most wonderful and peaceful place on the Mount of Olives. It is often missed from every ones lists. Only open Tuesday And Thursday until 1pm. The sisters are very friendly and very happy to answer any questions you have. Add this to your trip and you won't be disappointed.
