Located in the Old City’s Muslim Quarter, this is the world’s third holiest shrine to Muslims (after the Kaaba in Mecca and the Tomb of the Propher in Medina), which signifies the spot where the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have ascended into Heaven.

Holy of Holies is not under the dome of the rock but is there on the platform. It is 5 cubits square. The dome does not have to be torn down to build the 3rd temple.

This is a good site to visit once but depending on your religious viewpont whether you would want to go again. Hotly disputed site and mandatory to abide by Muslim dress code. cannot pray or take Bible's there. Islam - a dictatorship.

World famous building maybe, but not overly impressed with it and the fact that you cannoot look in let alone enter to see really makes this a non place to see.
