Even though it's hiding behind a lot of construction currently, don't miss this gem if you're in the area. It normally hosts great exhibitions and downstairs you can even view movie exhibitions. If you sit in the very sophisticated cafe, you can take in wonderful views of the Bosphorus.

Very good, airy museum of modern art with an excellent restaurant where you can sit on the sea-facing balcony. Reasonable admission fees but *FREE* to visit on Thursdays! Many rooms that show films as part of the installations. Special workshops throughout the year for children as well as for adults. Has a movie theater that shows highly prized films, sometimes... They are building all around it, so be prepared to negotiate the construction sites. However, it is well worth the trouble. This is one of the world's great modern art museums. The restaurant is also excellent, and you might find something good in the boutique.

The museum has a good location close to the center and Bosporus shore. There is even a cafe in the museum with an outside sitting terrace that has a great view. Enter fee is only 25 TL, which is not so expensive. If you like modern art, you will definitely find this museum interesting and maybe even extraordinary. The museum... More

We spent hours in the place and had to leave without visiting all rooms and artifacs on display. The creativity of the young Turkish artists surprised us very positively. The day will be complete if you eat at the excellent museum restaurant, where you can enjoy a superb food while seeing the boats and ships navigating the Bosphorus.

A really interesting collection of pieces from Turkish artists. Fascinating the way ideas develop, and the variety of mediums in which they have worked. The photography was particularly enthralling on the lower ground. Definitely worth a visit.

The museum offered a lovely and mesmerizing collection as well as interesting interactive pieces. Although, if you are in Istanbul for a short amount of time, I wouldn't put this museum at the top of my list, unless you truly are a fan of modern art.

the concept of the museum is really about modern art. And restaurant&bar is perfect with the seaview. you should make a reservation, because it's really busy especially at night ! it is a romantic athmoshpere for couples but we went there with our 2-years-old babygirl at past and it was perfect, so i advice this place also for family-with-children.

If you are interested in modern arts visit this museum. You can easily reach there by tram 15 min walking distance from Karaköy area. Entrance is free on Thursdays.

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
