We visited Hakan Evin after visiting a couple of other Carpet shops and settled to buy 1 silk and 1 wool Kilim. We were attended by Tuncay May, and he seemed very genuine and honest. He explained the details of the carpet including region, style, colors very well and at no point did we feel he tried to up sell... More

Whether you are looking to buy a Turkish rug or not, your visit to Istanbul should include stopping into to Hakan's store. It will be a highlight of your vacation. He is honest and sincere. He will not pressure you into buying anything. He is extremely proud of his products and country and genuinely wants visitors to have a good... More

As beginners, we read everything we could about buying carpets from Turkey. We started by interviewing several carpet dealers before settling for working with Tuncay May at Hakan Evin Rug. Tuncay May patiently listened to our bumbling about what we wanted when we didn't even know what kind of design or colors we were looking. He asked lots of questions... More

I have been a customer of Hakans for over 15 years now. He is the most knowlegeable, patient and pleasant of any vendor in this city. His selection and prices are not to be beat. If you are living in or visiting Istanbul, do not waste your time looking for carpets anyplace else. I recommend him to everyone!

I always have a great time at Hakan's. Beautiful rugs, great, friendly service. I always just ask anyone at the bazaar for Hakan Evin's shop and they run to get him.

My family lived in Istanbul for a few years a while back and we were so lucky to get to know Hakan and his rug shop very well!Throughout the years we've purchased many carpets from him and have always recommended him to our family and friends. His shop is truly the best in the Grand Bazaar and all of Istanbul.... More

A crowded shop doesn't always mean a good shop. This shop is located in a hidden corner outside the grand bazaar. It has no-market noise, yet they have best quality of product. Mr. Tuncay are a good salesperson. He have a great attitude, polite, and very helpful. He doesn't reluctant to show us their cheapest product and comparing it to... More

Hakan Evin Rug is a very nice store on a hidden corner of the grand bazaar, and they also have a warehouse 5 min walking distance, which is much bigger and has a lot more options. Tuncay is a great salesperson, who won't push you to buy a rug (as 99% of the people in grand bazaar will do), can... More

I purchased an amazing rug here from Tuncay after my parents recommended it to me. My parents have been coming to Hakan for years and the staff knows them, their preferences, and style. They in turn were introduced to Hakan by their local Turkish friends. You will only find high-quality carpets here (no machine made Oriental, Indian, etc rugs). Also,... More

Staying in Grand Bazaar

Neighbourhood Profile
Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighbourhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.
