This is a Greek legend; Hero was a priestess of Aphrodite who lived in the tower in order to stay pure. Leander was a boy from across the strait, and one day he saw her and, spellbound by her beauty, swam out to the island. They fell in love, and every night Hero would put up a lantern to guide... The tower is a restaurat and cafe now! To get to the tower you need to get on a boat in Üsküdar (asian side) or Kabataş (Eurpean side) View is nice but not a must-see! Scenery of the old city might be nice during the sunset but if you had it on Galata Tower you don't need to go! You... More

This is situated between the Galata Bridge and Bhosporus bridge , and we can just take a few pictures when going in the boat from Galata bridge. It is not easily accessible,

The Maiden's tower is an iconic structure located in the Bosphorus between the European and Asiatic sides of Istanbul. The legend of it's history is just good fun and no one would definitively tell us if is is true or not, and I suspect not. You do not specifically need to book a tour there as the ferries going between... More

You must take a cheap ferry ride in istanbul to ride past this tower. The ferry's depart and connect many different location in istanbul and only cost a couple lira (~$1).

We didn't actually make the trip to the little island where the tower stands - instead we sat opposite it on the mainland sipping Turkish Tea and watched the sun set. Very very beautiful. Would recommend a visit, even if you just go to the tea area and view the tower from the mainland. To get here, you need to... More

It is certainly a nice place for getting the panoramic view of Istanbul from a different perspective, but as boats arrive and leave at given times, the excursion seems rather boring, as there are not many things to do apart from drinking and eating.

Everyone has seen the Maiden's Tower in the Istanbul Harbour. You pass by it often. It's been a lighthouse and even a prison in its past. Now it's a tourist attraction, an observation point and a restaurant. Yes you can visit it by a 15 minute shuttle from Uskudar. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch. Dinner in the evening requires... More

Staying in Uskudar

Neighbourhood Profile
Uskudar
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.
