So we were stuck in Istanbul for the sixth week working on a project. Istanbul can get wearisome - same beer everywhere, same old food. And then we found a little bit of Ireland not far from Taksim Square. The place is small but quaint and the Guinness is creamy and went down a treat. Leon, the landlord, is not... More

This is such a lovely little bar, tucked down a back street in Taksim and you need to look carefully for it. Leo the landlord has a warm welcome for everyone, enjoys the craic, plays Irish requests and shows the sport. Walls littered with the remnants of previous visitors but it's quaintness is endearing and there's no doubt that many... More

We visited on a cold Saturday night in winter. The host, Leon, was there by himself and from the off he made us feel super welcome. The Guinness is excellent, creamy and easy to drink, just like at home in Ireland. Leon is a real lover of all things Irish, and great music was played all night. Sadly it was... More

Walked over from my hotel in Taksim and went to find out this Irish touch in Istanbul. Had the feel of a local's hangout. Perfect place to grab a Guiness and watch some good football games or chilling to the background music! Occasionally they'll have some pretty good live music on weekends I think. Reasonable prices and the place is... More

My husband and I came across this small pub located in Taxim after leaving a restaurant across the street. It was still early so it was only us and the owner, Leo. He is by far the coolest bar owner we have ever met! He welcomed us in like we were one of the family. We stayed for a bit,... More

Like the other 6billion people living on this earth, I am enjoying a summer night in my way. Never thought I could have a place to miss, so far away from my hometown till this day. I am missing the most fresh beers i had in Turkey, but most of all, I am missing that specific place, that specific person/brother/man... More

The owner Leo is a star. Last year he showed a match featuring my home team and this year he did it again. Perfect place for a few beers and to watch a game on TV

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
