The Historical and Luxurious Art of BathingHistorical and Architectural Features“I hope that until the end of days, good hearted friends who take a look at what I have made, when they will perceive the seriousness and the spirit of my effort, can have a fair view and can invoke my name to pray for me.” Mimar Sinan, ArchitectThe Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam in Istanbul was designed and built by Mimar Sinan, the chief Ottoman architect. It was built at the request of Hurrem Sultan (Roxelana), the wife of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century. It was built where the ancient public baths of Zeuxippus used to stand, between the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. The area is also particularly significant as the site where the Temple of Zeus once stood.

Its something you have to do ones in your life. I recommend this place because the attention was very friendly and with a relax atmosphere. The music and facilities are 5 stars. Definitely is the best Hamam in Istanbul. My therapist was Eirvan and she was very good. I took the complete treatment, its expensive but worth it.

Had an 8 hour layover in Istanbul. Took the metro into the city and went to the Ayasofya Hamami for a bath. Beautiful steam room and the spa package was great: Exfoliating scrub, wash and great deep tissue massage.

Amazing experience in beautiful hammam, built in 1556. I had the Keyf-i package: body scrub, bubble wash and massage. Ebubekrr is an excellent therapist.

Located in the heart of Istanbul near some main attractions. If you are in Istanbul this is a must. Book the 45min Hamam treatment were you get a massage, bubble soap on your full body on marble stone in this beautiful Hamam building. I recommend to book it in advance! Men and Women have separate entrance and separate treatment rooms... More

Having an authentic Hamam has been on my bucket list for years. Since we had a 3 day stay in Istanbul, this was the time! My husband and I booked the hamam for 4 pm. When we arrived, he entered in the men's section and I was escorted to the womens section. The place is magnificent, hundreds of years old,... More

I expected a very good hamam, but today's experience was the least exemplary!! All hamams should learn from them! The scrubbing, the bubble bath, the message, were all one of a kind! I don't know if i will ever have a better experience or even a similar one in any place in the world other than here in Ayasofya Hurrem... More

I am a hamam fan and this is the best hamam I have ever been to. The place is in very good condition. Although it is almost 500 years old, it looks as built yesterday. Service is wonderful the resting room where you rest before the oil massage is great. You truly feel like the Sultan's wife. It is great,... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
