About Culinary Backstreets -Tours
When it comes to exploring a city’s authentic dining scene, while the stomach should ideally serve as the best compass, the truth of the matter is that it’s hard to find your way without good local advice. That’s where Culinary Backstreets’ Culinary Walks come in. In order to help you explore the world’s gastro-capitals and get off these cities’ eaten path, CB is offering (with selected partners) guided culinary walks in some of the cities we cover, starting with Istanbul, Athens, Barcelona, and Shanghai. Our culinary walks are designed to lead visitors on an eating binge through a city’s lesser-seen historic side streets and authentic markets, taking in countless hard-to-find culinary gems and, in between bites, a select number of untouristed monuments. You can view our updated safety measures at https://culinarybackstreets.com/our-commitment/

This was our first Culinary Backstreets tour but wow what at tour! This was our first Culinary Backstreets tour but wow what at tour! Our tour guide Benoit excited our tastebuds from the start to the very end. We were spoilt with the shear array of different flavors and aromas and definitely surprised we managed to fit it all in our stomachs, but it was all so good how could you not?! The walking was very manageable and took in some really interesting routes around the deeply historic Grand Bazaar area, including examples of Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. Benoit was deeply knowledgeable about the history of Istanbul and also modern local culture so it was always an engaging experience. My personal favorite dishes were the breakfast, Pide and the Adana kebab. And the chicken breast pudding and Kokoreci were two of the most interesting dishes. One other great thing - we barely saw another tourist in the whole 6 hour tour so we were definitely on the backstreets.

The Hidden Beyoglu Tour was the highlight of our trip to Istanbul! Our guide, Remziye, provided the perfect combination of information on the culture, history and food of Turkey. All of the locations we went to (and there were A LOT) offered something unique that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own. Highly recommend taking the tour early in your trip so that you carry the knowledge as you continue to explore.

The whole thing was absolutely excellent. Gonca was fantastic. I loved how she not only taught us about local food but also about local history. She also gave us fab recommendations which we did over the next few days of our stay. We are already looking at which other cities Culinary backstreets operate in so we can plan our next weekend away. Could not recommend the experience highly enough.
