Large and massive statue that is lit at night. Now, when it is Christmas time, the city also has a large christmas tree in the square. To my taste, the square could have been twice the size, but they have given the space to the...More

Ismail Somoni's monument is located in Ozodi square (on the southeast side of Rudaki Park), where Rudaki Avenue intersects Jalol Ikromi Street. A bronze statue of Somoni rises from a red granite plinth, framed by a golden arch which is surmounted by a crown. He...More

This is a very nice area to walk through. You could spend an afternoon visiting the square and surrounding parks.

Somoni is an historical icon here. This large statue is impressively placed in Rudaki Park. Other reviewers have noted pesky vendors of custom photographers or harassing police. We encountered neither.

It is a very typical statue of a central-asia style national hero, glorified and idealised, with a statue that's centrally located and definitely impressive, but I personally do not really see why it is a "must-visit"

While Ismoil Somoni 's capital was Bukhara the map behind the statute try to suggest that Dushnabe was the heart of the Samanid empire. Having said that it is worth having a look if you are in Dushanbe.
