This museum is neither well laid out nor are things explained adequately. That said the exhibits are interesting but it's the beautiful old buildings that steal the show. If you need to while away an hour or two then it's worth a visit

Actually there are two museums. One shows items from the history of Sri Lanka, the other one is more about sience I would say. In the Second museum a huge part is about genetics in plants and animals. You can visit both for 600 rupies, which is in my opinion a fair price. The museums are not so huge places.... More

The Museum is huge and one needs to wear comfortable shoes to go around. If you are a museum/history-lover then this is a place for you. You'll learn the many thing about Ceylon with the displayed artifacts. One thing odd though is there's an entrance fee which is 500-600 rupee but if you want to take photos, then you have... More

The museum is nice but some area of the museum is not ready yet. It can be developed as a better museum if the right attention is given.

Let me confess first- i am a sucker for museums! And since we had a day to kill in Colombo with an fixed itinerary, decided to make this place our first stop in our Sri Lankan itinerary. The museum in set in an impressive colonial building (renovations were happening when we visited). The grounds are vast and filled with big... More

Columbo national Museum house some of the oldest antiquities of the Ceylon area some dating many centuries ago. The biggest problem is that the museum itself is incredibly dated and not enticing for history lovers. There is no air conditioning and ventilation is incredibly poor. Lighting of all the artifacts is limited at best and the flow through the museum... More

Best place to visit and witness history. We have limited time so we just saw it passing by. You may ask your driver to stop for half an hour if you have time.

Sri Lanka has an amazingly interesting history, therefore it was a small disappointment how this museum filled its expectations. However, it leaves quite many empty spots, especially in from the colonial times abd the modern times (or was the museum in renovation?) I do not know as the signs or personnnel didn't tell this. Still, there is a good potential... More

The museum is a majestic building but when we visited it was under renovation. Lots of history mostly pre-colonial era. We didn't get to see much about the colonial era. The presentation wasn't well organised.
