This museum could be really good. There are hundreds of artefacts, hundreds of photos, and so much information. But it's not really good. It's really rubbish. Very little context is given for any of the exhibits, so it's hard to grasp the significance of anything....More

Not an ideal place but set in a nice building, lots of basic artefacts and pictures with a huge disliking on America! I got around the 2 floors in 30 minutes.

Last thing we did in Vientiane before going back home to Udon Thani. I thought it was very interesting because to be honest I didn't know anything at all about Laos before coming to Thailand. I mean, I just about knew Laos existed (sorry Laos)....More

Our guide book - from 2015 - mentioned the museum was due to move. Well it's still here and the move can't come soon enough! The building is old and tired and the displays are the same. Compared to modern museums this is a poor...More

It poured with rain for our first day in Vientiane, so we decided to do a few museums. It wasn't particularly exciting but it did have an overview of Laos history beginning in prehistoric times and some interesting objects from times since. Not a must...More

I only got a quick tour here and I love to learn about their history especially the fact that the great Khmer Empire had once made their capital somewhere in Laos before they moved to Cambodia so there's also many relics associated with Khmer here....More

Covers a bit of everything from Lao natural history to the colonial war. The building itself is a (retrofitted and expanded) governor's mansion. The bad news is that the interior is no longer a showpiece of colonial furnishings and wall decorations (the retrofitting even added...More

If you have some spare time, which you may do in Vientiane if you stay for more than 2 days, and you are looking to kill some time. This museum is in pretty bad shape and was swelteringly hot. The displays are severely dated and...More

Honestly the weirdest museum I've ever visited. It covers everything from the dinosaurs to modern day Laos in one long exhibition. The majority of the museum is just pictures without dates or any real context. We went to the museum hoping to learn something about...More

This museum is in the centre of town. It displays Laos history and some natural history. It's not the most up to date/ maintained museum but I liked that about this place. Definitely worth a visit for only 10,000 kip. Note that they close for...More
