This market is frequented by the locals. You rarely find any foreigners here. It's very hot and smells, especially after rain. However, the items sold here are very organic and you can see all walks of life of the Khmers frequenting this local market. It's an experience.

The Kandal Market was just down the street from our hotel, The Ohana Palace. We loved taking photos of the vendors loading up their stalls just before sunrise every morning. They brought in every type of food imaginable. We saw them carrying in sides of beef on their back, chickens and every sort of vegetables. Walking through the market is... More

To be fair, we were just passing in the afternoon, and it was probably already dead at that moment - most customers shopped in the morning, and most sellers went home. However, it was interesting going throuh the stalls of those who remained. But, again, it is just a food market, so you should not expect anything spectacular - it... More

This is my third time for me for the market like this. I really love the way that people selling fruits, vegetables and meats in this market, all the stuff is so fresh love it. The market itself has 4 part. 2 parts are clothes and breakfast and another 2 more parts are vegetables and meats. But one thing that... More

About 200 metres from the waterfront/promenade on 144 Street, Kandal market is a good choice to buy food, fruit and vegetables. We bought some good Kampot pepper to take home.

The market was located within walking distance from our accommodation so we decided to have a closer look. In my opinion the market is only worth visiting if you are near it, otherwise it is not worth making the special effort. It sells all the fruits and vegetable that you have seen before in other parts of Cambodia. The prices... More

We stayed nearby so walked through several times and anyways loved it. We bought some limes and mangoes which were excellent. My 7 yr old really enjoyed the experience and we didn't find it overbearing - vendors were friendly and nobody was pushy. We're planning on heading there again for breakfast tomorrow.

Good local market tailoring to locals. It can get really hot so go early to enjoy. You can get everything here although can be a bit squashed

Real insight into non tourist Phnom Penh. It is very smelly and busy.. most food is live you'll see fish flapping off their trays onto the floor, frogs and crabs trying to escape their pens. Live ducks and chickens. A great experience but we weren't that enthusiastic to buy or eat produce as found the smell off putting. Highly recommend... More

Nothing special, pretty average and typical market if you are used to SE Asian markets. If its your first time, than it will be a very interesting experience! A lot of fruits, vegetables and seafood. A little grimy and dirty with a definite third world feel! There are some street food rotisserie chicken stalls around that look very good!
