- Dara-KhmerMelbourne, Australia3,764 contributionsMovie shootOn the day we visited it seems we were the only tourists. A movie was being shot with a large film crew and it was easy to see why. This is a stunning complex and having seen kyoto and Angkor Wat, feel this has much to show the visitor. Be careful their is a local couple who have linked Google maps to their home as the entry. Check your entrance as it's not via a private house despite what the sign saysVisited September 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 September 2020
- Alexis NSydney, Australia5 contributionsOne of the highlights of my trip to HueI don't know where to begin. Fabulous. Please dress appropriately and show respect. The tombs across Vietnam fascinate and are being slowly restored. The price of admission is reasonable and you can hire audio tours as well.Visited February 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 February 2020
- Alex HPort St. Mary, United Kingdom1,313 contributionsThe tomb itself is only open once a yearWe visited three tombs during our stay in Hue. The best way to do this was to rent a scooter (which you can do from your hostel or rental shop). The three tombs are all reachable in the same day, along with other places, if you take a scooter. This particular tomb has very pretty gardens surrounding it. However the actual tomb site is only open once a year, on the anniversary of the emperors death, therefore you can’t actually see the tomb unless you go on this date. It’s worth a visit though if you are doing the other tombs. The entry fee is 150,000 and can be bought right outside the entrance. NB - you can park your scooter for free outside the entrance, so don’t feel obliged to pay anyone for parking. We were actually hassled by a lady asking for money for parking, but don’t make the mistake of parting with your money.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 February 2023

Very interesting, and historically very important, so definitely not to be missed, but aesthetically it left me cold. To my untutored eyes everything seemed to be a rip-off of Chinese art, without any attempt to add a local flavour. Maybe that was the fashion back then.

Nice, brilliant sight! The air was fresh, and the land was huge. It brings back historical experience. I bet you will get a shock there. P/s: It costs money.

We visited several Tombs while in Hue, and this is one of my top three. Its hard to pick one as my overall favorite, because they were all different. This tomb was spread over a large area with many buildings and gardens. This once was unique as you can see the hill where the emperor is buried. Highly recommend visiting this tomb while in Hue.

Have you ever wanted to visit a royal tomb with a unique design? Then you should definitely check out the Tomb of Minh Mang in Hue, Vietnam! This imperial tomb is full of sacred altars, imperial courtyards, and beautiful glazed ceramics. And the best part? You can take some of these ceramics home with you as souvenirs! So don't miss out on this unique opportunity to explore a royal tomb and take some amazing souvenirs with you.

Worth the trip out of Hue to visit. Interesting story of the Emporer who used it as a summer palace and was subsequently buried there. Located on shady, quiet grounds, and surrounded by water.

It is such a great royal tomb with amazing Fengshui and fabulous architecture. It was pre-prepared by the Minh Mang emperor before his death.

Fantastic architecture! We went to this place with our private tour guide who was able to tell us more about the history of the place. It is located in a very vast area. There is plenty of shade and lovely spots for photos

We visited Minh Mang mausoleum with a private driver, which enabled us to visit all the main points of interest around Hue.
This was probably one of our favourite tombs, with a very nice architecture.
If you have time, I would recommend visiting this place. Taking a guided tour will probably enable you to enjoy it at most.

Hi Roaieana, I suggest you stay 1 - 2 nite in Hue, it has many place to see such as royal tombs (Khai Dinh, Minh Mang, Tu Duc mausoleum), imperial city, Thanh Toan bridge & Thanh Thuy village or take a Dragon boat trip on Perfume river, or go to Thanh Tien village - making paper flower village.
Further more, I should go Hue via Hai Van pass - it's really nice

Hi Kelley! Thanks for the review. About how many hours would allot for all the places that you visited in your post? The reason why I ask is, I would be coming from Hoi An that morning, arriving in Hue at about 9 am or so.

I'd allow about 90 min of Minh Mang but a quick walk through could be done in under an hour

Hola, Que tal.

We would like to visit the tombs around Hue without an official guide. Has anyone else done this and what was your experience? We are thinking of getting taxis and just reading up on the sights before we visits. We won't necessarily visit all the sights.

Hey, we did this by renting a scooter from our hotel for 100,000 dong. The alternative was a private car for 500,000 that would take you wherever you wanted to go and wait for you. We were told often that there are two main tombs to see Minh Mang and Kai Den (spelling horribly wrong I think) which will take up the best part of an afternoon if you are driving yourself. To find the tombs we used an app called maps.me, essentially it doesn't need wifi to work and uses gps to guide you like google maps. We just downloaded the Vietnam map before setting off. If you get to a tomb and suddenly wish to know more you can rent a guide there but tbh we enjoyed walking the grounds which were spectacular. If you have any more questions just let me know!

Is 1 day in Hue enough?
Our tour is suggesting a 1/2 day tour in Hue, then heading on a cruise down the Perfume River and on to Hoi An. This seems rushed to me.

An entire day is needed to do justice to this beautiful town. 2 days would be even better, if you can spare the time.
you can see all the tombs, do the citadel at a decent pace and eat in all those fab eateries around town
