A surprising visit to a fine art museum

I have never visited a fine arts museum quite like this one--in a big city. The museum is housed in three French Colonial buildings and each has a unique exhibit. We had our own... read more

More a history museum than an art one. Lovely collection of Vietnamese "impressionists" painters and amazing buda sculptures.

We had some free time from our tour, and I decided to go to the Fine Arts Museum. I took a taxi, and spent about 2 1/2 hours there. Beautiful three buildings, old and newer art. Then walked back to the Majestic Hotel.

Others have mentioned that the buildings are rather old and there is no air conditioning, just a few fans but don't let that deter you. I personally think the old colonial buildings add to the charm of the museum. There are 3 buildings, each building has 3 floors. Not all the rooms/galleries are open but there is still a ton... I have never visited a fine arts museum quite like this one--in a big city. The museum is housed in three French Colonial buildings and each has a unique exhibit. We had our own guide and he was quite familiar with the collection and was able to help us navigate the narrow hallways, etc. This museum is not temperature or... More

Worth a visit if only to go through the beautiful houses encasing the exhibition. A surprisingly large collection, actually spanning three houses with 3 floors each. Mostly focused on modern art but also has a part about ancient art. Cheap entrance fee, no air-condition.

An unassuming place, the HCM City Fine Arts Museum contains what seem to be mostly Vietnamese works, apparently from northern Vietnamese artists, from the 1960s onward. Many beautiful works -- mostly oil and similar paintings, lacquerware, and a few sculptures -- illuminate aspects of recent Vietnamese history and society. More information on context and the artists would be helpful, as... More

I happily spent 3 hours visiting the museum including a break at the lovely Art cafe. The builiding is not modern however I went to see the art and was not disappointed. It is a reasonable price to enter and there is plenty to look at depending on your interests.

The outside of the building is beautiful unfortunately the inside is quite scruffy. A mixture of modern art and a few sculptures. Paintings on silk were interesting. Many paintings depicting the war. Don't expect a chic city art museum but cheap entry do worth a quick visit.

A fascinating large exhibition of an extensive group of art works. The building itself is beautiful. Entrance fee nominal. A lovely cafe in the grounds. One of the best attractions the city.

The main theme of the paintings in the museum seems to be war and the revolutionary struggle of the people to free themselves from oppression. There are some wonderful works on these themes and some more modern works in the second building. The part I liked best was in the basement of the second building where 50 very enthusiastic children... More
