Superb. I didn't expect very much and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. An excellent size - not too big and not too small. Excellent English descriptions with many having QR codes for more info. A wonderful range of exhibits on Vietnamese history and culture which is very much focused on quality rather than quantity. Really conveys what a melting pot of cultures and conflict this region had been for over a thousand years. I spent about an hour here and it is probably the best hour I spent in Saigon. Highly recommended.

P.S. I didn't manage to see the puppet show but currently out it's in at 10:30am and 2:30pm.

Otherwise known as the History Museum of Ho Chi Minh City |(at least according to Mr Google)

Really enjoyed myself in this museum, learnt a lot about ancient Vietnamese history, saw a lot of old artifacts and also got in some amazing water puppetry, all in all a good few hours spent here.

Honestly didn't know that Vietnamese history went so far back, 1000's of years in fact....was well impressed with the detail and information provided from the exhibits.....which were in English throughout....

The mummy of Xom Cai was interesting, if not a little creepy, and the sculptures, deities, and stone carvings from around south east Asia were magnificent.... the phallic symbols were particularly eye opening......cough.

If you are lucky, like I was, you might stumble upon the twice daily water puppet show they host.......as far as I can remember it costs 100/200 Vnd, but its well worth a look........the show I saw was on at 2.00 ...........
The puppetry was very well done, and it did take me a while to figure out how they did it all.........ha..........
It was a tad bit long, but overall was something that had to be seen in Vietnam, another cultural highlight ticked off the box!

Overall the museum was definitely worth visiting, combined with the water puppet show, a recommended place to see.

This museum contains a big collection of historical china, clothes, furnitures, buddhas and statues but unfortunatly its made in a very oldfashion way and there is almost no text. Lack of interesting points and reflections, just feels a bit boring

I found this to be an average museum. Tickets are meant to be 30k dong, got charged 65k on the way in (I assume the tourist skim), tv displays weren’t on, mummy exhibit was closed and there was not a scrap of toilet paper in the bathrooms.

Displays were ok and I learned a few things. Worth seeing if you’re in the area but I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it.

A nice place to visit to learn about the history of Vietnam. Mostly the reason, effects and turnouts of the war. Use of biological weapons and its after effects. Great place to spend couple of hours

Good to get background on Vietnamese history, with exhibits on the various languages and ethnic groups and the constant struggle to assert their independence against successive invaders over the centuries - Chinese, Khmer, Thai, French etc.

Not a big museum. Good understanding on how the Vietnamese society evolved from the past. Worth a visit if time permits
