Didn't have long enough to do this place justice, our guide was very good, we wouldn't have understood half of it without him.

A historic place. You can rent a bicycle to reach here. Mostly sells silk and some handicrafts with bargain able price.

Why impressive? Because the museum had to start from scratch once Vietnam became independent. The French took all important items back to France. Wandering through the museum gives one an insight into the history and customs of the country. I much liked, as well as the creaking wooden floors and the labyrinthine rooms. Wandering around is a real discovery tour.... More

Poeple use to think of Vietnam as a place of war. In fact, Vietnam has 4000 years of history and there are more to explore than war time. Coming to this museum, you will understand Vietnam's history as a whole from the beginning until this day and you also can comprehend the influence of history on the culture of Vietnam.

If you want to know more about the Vietnam history, this is the place. No need for a guide as all the text are in Vietnamese, French and English.

I have never learn anything about Vietnamese history in school before and visiting this museum have given me a clearer understanding of the history of the country. Worth giving this place a visit if you are on a city tour preferably with a knowledgeable guide.

I recommend going to this museum. The building is nice and although the items are not always the most attractive, you really get a step by step presentation of the history of Vietnam. I very much liked it, having read the wikipedia page on the Vietnam history, I thought this museum gave someone who had never read anything on the... More

It was part of a cruise shore excursion that we came to visit here. There are many stuff on display related to the history of Vietnam. You will need to be guided to understand the displays/statues and the history of them. However, there aren't many displays that are worth taking pics of. If you are short of time, give this... More

VDN 15,000 entry fee plus VDN 20,000 for photo permit but nothing worth photographing. Note the classic french window handles and the pair of glasses, marching compass and fly-damaged black and white photos.

Pros: a snapshot of thousands of years of Vietnamese history, interesting range of artefacts which show the various regional influences on Vietnam. Cons: not exactly central, lack of full explanations on the artefacts.
