About
On your guided tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels, you’ll learn about the history of this underground system. The tunnels were dug during the Vietnam War by Viet Cong soldiers as a way to move undetected and launch surprise attacks. Experience the tight squeeze firsthand by crawling through the tunnels, and fire assault rifles at the shooting range after.
Pack bug spray and dress for hot and humid weather, arriving earlier in the day to beat the crowds and the afternoon sun. It's not recommended to visit the tunnels after a downpour, as the area will get very muddy.

The tunnels were one of the highlights of our entire Vietnam trip. I am surprised that not many people visit the tunnels when they go to Ho Chi Minh city. This is definitely a must-do in my opinion. The entire tunnel complex is more than 250km long and was constructed over a period of 20 years during the war. It is quite unbelievable how the guerillas lived in these narrow tunnels, and developed innovative techniques to avoid detection. Almost everything is made using materials captured during the war as the guerillas didnt have access to much metal, rubber etc. Massive bomb craters dot the landscape giving a stark reminder of the the grim history of the place.

This network of tunnels, built by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, is a must-see for anyone looking for an adventurous day out.
The tunnels were impressively well-built, with living quarters, kitchens, and even hospitals. It was incredible to see how the Viet Cong were able to survive underground for so long. I was also amazed by the ingenuity of the traps they had set up to protect themselves from the enemy.
The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly, and they gave us a great insight into the history of the tunnels. We even had the chance to crawl through a few of the tunnels ourselves!

The Cu Chi Tunnels are a remarkable testament to the resilience and courage of the Vietnamese people. Visiting the tunnels is an unforgettable experience that will stay with you for a lifetime. The tunnels were used as an underground network of passageways for the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. They were also used for weapon storage, communication, and air vents. The tunnels are incredibly well-preserved and you can easily imagine what it must have been like for the Viet Cong during the war. The tunnels are awe-inspiring and you can't help but be amazed by the ingenuity of the Viet Cong in creating such a complex network of tunnels. The tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly and will take you through the tunnels, explaining the history and significance of the tunnels. You will also get to visit the shooting range where you can fire a real gun! Visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels is an unforgettable experience that will stay with you for a lifetime. It is a remarkable testament to the resilience and courage of the Vietnamese people and an awe-inspiring reminder of the ingenuity of the Viet Cong.

The Cu Chi Tunnels, located in Vietnam, are an impressive reminder of the French Colonialism and the Vietnam War. The tunnels are a vast network of underground passages, spanning over 250 km, and were used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. One of the most remarkable aspects of the tunnels is the booby traps that were set up to protect the Viet Cong from their enemies. From punji stakes to tripwire explosives, the ingenuity of the traps is truly amazing. Visitors to the tunnels can also get a better understanding of the daily life of the Viet Cong, as the tunnels were used for living quarters, storage, and even hospitals. Exploring the tunnels is an unforgettable experience, and one that will stay with you for a long time.

We crawled in the narrow 20m tunnel and realised how difficult life was for the North Vietnamese soldiers and how wonderful it is now to have a united Vietnam.

Short of time on our Saigon experience someone said drop Cu Chi. Cannot remember who it was, but surely not the one who knew or was a well wisher.
The best place to go to when in Saigon. Drop city tour, if possible skip Mekong delta even but not the Cu Chi. Amazing example of an evolved architecture of the tunnel system. Improvisations which will amaze you from how Vietnamese evaded the Americans and trapped them to their doom in crazy traps created for them.
They say cu chi tunnels had so profound effect on American soldiers who experienced it and lived that they lost their minds along with the limbs which would have never come out in one piece if you enter cu chi.
The tunnels were living quarters running up to 10-15 meters underground replete with ventilation bamboo shafts, chambers to snuffle cooking smoke, Saigon sandals cut from tyres which could be worn two ways, geometric excellence to contain a baby’s cries inside the tunnel not to alarm the Americans.
You cannot enter any tunnel if you weight anything more than 35-40 kgs as a grown up while for tourists they have made double the size sample tunnels. The Viet Cong soldiers were fed meagre food. Sometimes only a tapioca diet for a year or more which made them skeletal. Too much to see in amazement the best orchestrated battlefield of gorilla warfare.
And to top it all you can fire a Klasinikov or a carbine or a M-16 with real bullets. Another first time pleasant surprise for me to experience.

You see some really cool things and some horrific things as well. They show you an old propaganda film that is so devoid of facts it’s hilarious. Our tour guide was great, but had no idea what was fact or fiction. We learnt that North Vietnam and America were the only warring parties, the South wasn’t involved. Also, it wasn’t a civil war, which became obvious when you consider South Vietnam wasn’t in it. It was a great tour despite the fictional information provided.

Is it necessary to book a tour? or can I just show up and purchase tickets? I have transportation available, so this would not be an issue, just want to understand if a tourguide is indispensable, and if it has to be booked in advance

You will need to go with an organized tour. I’d suggest making a booking. It’s well outside of downtown Saigon. It took us 3 hours to get to the tunnels from our hotel. We went with a private tour.
Hi, am planning for the half day cu chi tunnels trip with my wife and 2 year old child and have 2 queries
1. My wife is pregnant, is the trip suitable for pregnant woman ( she would definitely NOT prefer entering any tunnels and would just enjoy the rest of the tour)
2. Will we be allowed to participate in firing range as my sole purpose visiting the tunnels is to fire a mk60

The highlight of the tour is going/crawling to the tunnel. That said, your pregnant wife with not be able to experience that. As for the two-year-old, she/he may get bored especially with the long bus ride there plus the actual hike that is sometimes mosquito-ridden,
As for the firing range, there is Saigon Sniper if that is what you want to do!

Gaillard, you can ask in any hotel at Ho Chi Minh about that matter. I am sure they have tours in French as well as in English that was the one I used there.
