We’ll worth a visit to see how the real street life and businesses operate. Everything from fruit & veg. Sales to shoe repairs. Street food, jewellery shops, banks and small hotels line the streets. The walkways are covered by motorbikes so be prepared to brave walking on the road. Very interesting and some of the best & tastiest food cafes.

The old quarter is the main attraction of Hanoi. Every square meter is turned into a little business or shop and the energy pumps non-stop. It pains me to see how much these entrepreneurial people have suffered during the last 2 years of Covid lock-downs ; a great number of shops are still shuttered up, possibly never to open again. Although it is the same everywhere in Vietnam, it baffles me that they still block all footpaths with parked scooters, forcing pedestrians into the crazy traffic on the road. They even park their scooter in the entrance of their own shop !! Not a place for those obsessed with "health & safety" either : because the shops are so small, all work is done on the footpath, exposing live wires, tools and sharps . . .
It is all chaotic, but fun and interesting. Invariably, you will find a little shop with the perfect souvenir !

it came back to life after covid, I love the rhythm of life here. The street food is still great, especially the "bia hoi".

The Hanoi old quarter is a real hive of activity. Traffic is perhaps the craziest i've yet seen. Astonishing that in the 4 days i was there I didn't see a single accident, and also that the cars seem remarkably free of scratches and damage. I wouldn't want to drive in this area!

We were very pleased with the Rex Hotel in Hanoi, reserve one with a large window facing the street- I believe it was referred to as an Executive room. The breakfast on the top floor is fantastic though not sure if still available during covid-19. Short stroll to the Hoan Kiem Lake and a great walk around the lake= people watching!- Pay attention to the French Colonial architecture as well. Make sure you dine at Duong's- the front desk can make arrangments.

Would you like go inside ?
Interesting place you can visit if you have the opportunity to come to Hanoi. Currently the area is closed and there are a few guards here but don't worry please contact me +84388014896, I will help you to get inside

Contact information is not permitted according to the posting guidelines, so this person has breached the guidelines for a start. I do not think it would be wise to do this because it has been stopped due to safety concerns. What this post is doing is asking visitors to do something illegal. Guards are there for a reason and from my observations don't take kindly to breaches. I've been on the train numerous times and seen how close they come to homes and would not want anyone I know to be sitting that close to a moving train.

If you go to Ha Long Bay or anywhere down South to beach areas, I would bring my own swimmers. Also, some hotels in Hanoi have pools, even some hotels in Sapa have heated pools.
best street or place to have dinner in old quarter are specifically .please tell me

I didn't see any in the old quarter but I saw plenty on my trip south to the Mekong Delta, more rural & better to see the more traditional way of living. 😊

I would appreciate any recommendations and advice as the 5th is new year in Vietnam is it best to stay in Hanoi or follow our schedule????

Although it depends on your favorite type of trips, like to recommend strolling the old city busy shops.May be interesting for a person coming from developed countries. And when you will visit Halong bay with a ship overnight, like to recommend a rather expensive ship for a cheap ship, rooms are not comfortable and meals not too good. However, even if you will try less expensive trip, you'll be able to enjoy an exotic old city. .

Hi Sophia, what is the name of the hotel you recommend here? And was it quiet at night for sleeping? Thanks so much.

Hi Simone,
Sorry this message is late but I’ve been so busy to check my email.
I recommend to stay at Del Vostro Hotel & Spa. Though the breakfast selections is not as good as the other hotels i stayed at Del Vostro is a luxury! The king size bed is super comfy, the room with a patio over looking the street is a plus, I think we were on the 6th floor. Most importantly it was quiet, you can’t even hear anything outside. Beautiful hotel!

Sorry for the long response but if you still need to catch a cab don't worry about price as very cheap, just ask before entering cab and make sure they have a meter!
