- daisy21988Maracaibo, Venezuela405 contributionsVery chaotic! The Old Quarter is a very chaotic area of Hanoi. We booked a hotel in the heart of the madness with our 7 month old baby and it was very challenging to get around the neighborhood with him. If I had known how active this area was I probably would have looked for a hotel elsewhere, but we did our best to try to find the quieter streets and to find restaurants that we could hang out at to take a break. The park and lake are gorgeous and we spent quite a bit of time there too. I think this area would be much more enjoyable for people without kids, but it's definitely not an area to be missed in Hanoi!Visited January 2023Written 7 January 2023
- Bipin DPune, India78 contributionsHeavenly hanoiOld is gold, authentic and exhilarating. You can shop till you drop.Throw your caution to the winds and explore at leisure the egg cafe, the history, souvenirs galore, red wood work, egg shell and duck shell lacquer paintings, magnets that portray Vietnam, silk and bamboo shirts, vtee shirts with faux brands that are difficult to distinguish. The street food is awesome, the whole sale markets have great options and good bargaining possibilities. Upmarket handicraft made by specially abled people out of silk threads is out of this world Icecreams, crepes, vwalking streets , music is so well orchestrated around the serene lake and pagoda.Even a month there may fall short.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 January 2023
- Rbansal2014New Delhi, India347 contributionsWalk around in the busiest spot in Hanoi! The Old Quarter in Hanoi is flocked with tourists, local people, vendors, bikes. It is a buzzing area right from the morning to late at night. It is lively and vibrant, it hosts numerous cafes, restaurants , shops of many kinds. It is a great area to spend your time, and browse many different shops and probably take a pit stop at any of the coffee shops!Visited January 2023Written 11 January 2023
- LeonhknyHong Kong, China14,185 contributionsAuthentic Hanoi neighborhoodThis is Hanoi's historic center. Dotted with some souvenir shops and tourist restaurants, it is still largely a local neighborhood. Many of the buildings are quite rundown and the surrounding can be filthy, raucous and chaotic. Adjust your expectation before visiting.Visited January 2023Written 13 January 2023

A true sight of structures showing the old quarter. Busy bustling street with loud music nights. Full of Spa, pedicure, manicure, body massages. Vietnamese coffee of varieties can be tried here. Varieties of Vietnamese food. Shops after shops to buy things and so many varieties of clothes. Dong Xuan market to buy gifts and varieties of things. All day and all nights bustling motorbikes, trishaws, and Vietnamese people are very humble and lovely people.

I really enjoyed the vibes and moods in the old town. The atmoshere was nostalgic. There was a Christmas market during our trips. Highly recommend to stay within the area as there are a lot of activities and good eats around.

The busy part of Hanoi with lots of great local restaurants and hidden gems. Hanoi in November is much cooler so it's easier to get around without worrying about the heat.

Crowded, chaotic, noisy. Absolutely love it. This is what you should expect for an old place that sells everything in life. Get a lost in the narrow streets, get honked at by the zipping motor bikes, and eat yourself silly while sitting on those tiny plastic stools.

This place is the heart of the city and a stone's throw away from Hoam Kim lake, train street and Opera house. The street is bustling with shops, eateries, people and has a festive air to it. Loved it.

Loved it. But seriously crazy traffic. Relatively slow. One has to be brave and strike out at times. No-one seems to be really trying to kill you. Fascinating streets specialising in areas if trade or goods. Haberdashery is phenomenal - if you have a plain piece of clothing you fancy embellishing take it with you and browse. Allsorts if things are fixed on the street / pavement. Fascinating.

The best bus we have is in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. The bus from Hanoi to Sapa is a spa. We have massage beds, private cabins, charging for my phone, the ability to watch movies and listen to music, millions of views on the way, and the best support.
We booked trekking tours and Fansipan. We are so lucky because we booked the Sapa bus and tour here. Thank you so much for everything.
You can contact bc family tour or Whatsapp. My friend and I have best support via this Whatsapp: +84886559609

We were very pleased with the Rex Hotel in Hanoi, reserve one with a large window facing the street- I believe it was referred to as an Executive room. The breakfast on the top floor is fantastic though not sure if still available during covid-19. Short stroll to the Hoan Kiem Lake and a great walk around the lake= people watching!- Pay attention to the French Colonial architecture as well. Make sure you dine at Duong's- the front desk can make arrangments.

Would you like go inside ?
Interesting place you can visit if you have the opportunity to come to Hanoi. Currently the area is closed and there are a few guards here but don't worry please contact me +84388014896, I will help you to get inside

Contact information is not permitted according to the posting guidelines, so this person has breached the guidelines for a start. I do not think it would be wise to do this because it has been stopped due to safety concerns. What this post is doing is asking visitors to do something illegal. Guards are there for a reason and from my observations don't take kindly to breaches. I've been on the train numerous times and seen how close they come to homes and would not want anyone I know to be sitting that close to a moving train.

If you go to Ha Long Bay or anywhere down South to beach areas, I would bring my own swimmers. Also, some hotels in Hanoi have pools, even some hotels in Sapa have heated pools.
best street or place to have dinner in old quarter are specifically .please tell me

I didn't see any in the old quarter but I saw plenty on my trip south to the Mekong Delta, more rural & better to see the more traditional way of living. 😊

Our initial plan was to do the Halong trip on the 5th to the 7th and then off to Sapa! Leaving hue and hoi an for the second week!
I would appreciate any recommendations and advice as the 5th is new year in Vietnam is it best to stay in Hanoi or follow our schedule????
Thank you

Although it depends on your favorite type of trips, like to recommend strolling the old city busy shops.May be interesting for a person coming from developed countries. And when you will visit Halong bay with a ship overnight, like to recommend a rather expensive ship for a cheap ship, rooms are not comfortable and meals not too good. However, even if you will try less expensive trip, you'll be able to enjoy an exotic old city. .

Hi Simone,
Sorry this message is late but I’ve been so busy to check my email.
I recommend to stay at Del Vostro Hotel & Spa. Though the breakfast selections is not as good as the other hotels i stayed at Del Vostro is a luxury! The king size bed is super comfy, the room with a patio over looking the street is a plus, I think we were on the 6th floor. Most importantly it was quiet, you can’t even hear anything outside. Beautiful hotel!

Hi there
Sorry for the long response but if you still need to catch a cab don't worry about price as very cheap, just ask before entering cab and make sure they have a meter!
