A rare breed of turtle enjoys this popular lake almost as much as countless locals and tourists. Hoan Kiem Lake is a dynamic daily tableau, from morning walks amid locals doing exercises on the shore, to young couples water-gazing on park benches, to the multiple shopping and sight-seeing opportunities in the vicinity. Centrally located in the city, Hoan Kiem Lake serves as a massive home base, and provides endless people-watching and recreational opportunities on the edge of the Old Quarter.

The heart of the touristy district and absolutely mobbed with both tourists and locals. It's nice that they block the surrounding streets off at night. The temple in the middle is a bit underwhelming, despite the large preserved Tortoise Genius in a case.

For my interest it was just a lake in the city. The temple was actually half under construction so it wasn't that nice.

We enjoyed a walk around this lovely lake on the first day or arriving in Hanoi. Interesting to see the local people and culture.

This is not a place of tranquility during the week due to the busy roads that circle the lake, and trying to cross any of the roads to get to the lake is not for the faint-hearted. However during the weekend evenings, the roads are...More

Very good place to walk around and sight seeing, very busy on weekend, good experience when eating some Trang Tien Ice-creams (located on Trang Tien str. - beside the Lake) after walking around.

A place of calm in the chaos of Hanoi. A nice place to go for a stroll. A few nice bars on the shore.

Went on Saturday morning/afternoon, pleased that roads were closed off to vehicles. Enjoyed talking to local school children who looked for foreigners to practice english with. Didn’t pay fee to cross bridge but instead enjoyed serene views of lake and found a band playing free...More

Impressive the water turtle, 2,10 meters long and 1,40 wide. Don't miss the Pagoda and have a lòook at the big and beautiful Bonsai there.

it's a lake, it's always open... there's no fence around it or anything

the locals get up pretty early to do their exercises. If you go there around 4 a.m/5am. you will already see people running and old ladies exercising
