This is a rare chance to see a 19th c. House of the tube style- narrow frontage, extending back in discrete living spaces. It is now set up partially with period furniture and partially with Hugh end crafts. Easy to find on Ma May St in the Old Quarter

Interesting to see a house which has been restored to show how life was in the 19th century. Well worth the detour.

This street was once located on the bank of the Red River and was a commercial harbor specializing in rattan and bamboo products. Shopkeeper families lived here until 1945. The house is typical of the tube house style in the Old Quarter. The shop was located on the first floor with the living quarters, courtyard and ancestors' altar on the... More

A gentle walk round the house with a knowledgable guide to explain the artefacts made it a good break from the heat

I enjoyed looking round this ancient house in the middle of Hanoi's Old Quarter. It is a well-preserved wooden house, including the 'kitchen', harking back to a bygone lifestyle a million miles away from modern, developed Vietnam. A little oasis of peace in bustling Hanoi.

The place provides a glimpse into the material culture of Hanoi of the 19th century and probably somewhat older times. The place is well-maintained and was evidently not the house of poor people. Some good souvenirs on sale, above the average kitsch. Worthwhile the short stop and supporting this institution.
