This place was built between 1805 and 1812 under King Gia Long and is over 2 centuries old. It resembles an old stone fortress and has steps leading to the top where one can get a good view of the city. There are old cannon sitting at the base of the place at grand level.

This location isn't that of an exciting park or even hold much to view but the history behind it is interesting. Worth a view if you have the time.

Although I've visited the Army Museum twice, I've never actually explored it until now. Always just a photograph from the grounds of the museum. The Flag Tower is actually quite important historically and is the only complete section left of the ancient, imperial citadel. Apart...More

Can't say much. We just went by it and took picture. We had other places to go and did not have much time to investigate more about the Hanoi Flag Tower.

Construction of the Flag Tower began in 1805 and took 7 years to complete and is one of the famous landmarks in Hanoi. The flags are replaced every few weeks and the tower is one of the few remaining structures after the French destroyed most...More

Very nice. On the grounds of the army museum. Nice views. Their opening times are a joke. Apart from a useless siesta they shut the place at 4.30 pm. Real communism :)

The flag tower is located adjacent to the Military Museum and is free to enter. We climbed up the three platforms on which the tower was built on and got some nice views of the surrounding area including the Old Citadel gate in the background....More

As we were taking an organised tour of Hanoi a few days later we decided to visit places that were not included in the itinerary. The Flag Tower is visible from a distance but the real gem isn't until you get inside. It costs 40,000...More

Curious tower that reminds you of minarets and water reservoirs. Nonetheless, pretty impressive. See it while at the MIlitary Museum, not as separate thing.

The Flag Tower really should be a part of the Military Museum review, but I'll combine them both here. The tower was build around 1812, making its mere existence/survival miraculous given this country's violent past. It's a simple structure but worth a walk around.

We paid the admission price to climb up the tower and look around and at Vietnamese prices, it was worth it. The museum and the old tanks and planes are slightly interesting (probably more to some than others).
