Nothing much, but it is a good phototaking spot since it has some history of it. U shld pass by this place if u r walking towards phra singh temple and other good temples along the way.

A must visit when you are in Chiang Mai. Right in busy center of Chiang Mai, this is a great place to chill in the evening and feed the birds or fishes. One of the many land mark of Chiang Mai.

The tha phae gate is an interesting merging of cultures. Buskers, beggars, pigeon feeders all gather and enjoy life at this location. There’s a McDonald’s and Starbucks near by too.

I wouldn’t say it’s a must but good to just to check it out. It’s a walking distance from the place I stayed. Lots of pigeons that you can feed in the evening. :)

The historic Tha Phae Gate is part of the old city wall and is THE muster point for all special occasions. Markets, fun fairs, beauty pageants... you name it, it's there.

extra points for the wall, we walked the entire perimeter which was interesting. this gate, looks like it stands before many visitors unseen while they do selfies feeding the pigeons. great wall.

Don’t go out of your way to get here. We were meeting up with friends to go to Sunday night market and dinner. The hawkers were a bit pesky while we were standing there trying to visit. There was some decent entertainment on a Sunday...More

I’m glad we visited the site, as I’m sure are the thousands of Chinese who take great delight in feeding the overwhelming number of pigeons. Sadly these birds divert instinctual cogitation from the historic infrastructure.

As far as I know the lanterns are really a big deal on New Years Eve. During other times of the year I could not answer with any certainty.
