About
A wonderful place to take the kids. It's got an outdoor water park and several outdoor play areas including a giant sandbox and a climbing gym. Don't forget to pack a swim suit for them if they plan to get wet. There is a play area for toddlers ages 1-2 and another indoor play area for kids aged 3-6. The age 3-6 play area is designed to be a town with kids checking out different professions. Fun!

Every weekend, thousands of tourists make their way up to this Northern Bangkok suburb to get lost in an enormous maze of shops at the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Home to almost 10,000 vendors, you’ll find everything from vintage sneakers to comic books and Thai handicrafts being sold here. You name it, Chatuchack probably sells it. The market is a great place to pick up souvenirs, but be sure to bargain for a good price. After a day of shopping and strolling around, the lush green lanes of Chatuchak Park are a welcome relief.

A great place to visit with kids. Entry of museum is free but it require a photo identity so must carry passport with it. Plus it's entrance require a rapid covid test. So be prepared for it

We really enjoyed our time at the Children’s Discovery museum. We visited in early Jan 2023 with our 4 and 7 year olds. You still need masks, passports, but no Covid tests, were required to enter.
As some of the reviews indicate, sections are only briefly open, apparently on a schedule (which we didn’t figure out) for 40mins and then are closed for cleaning. Yes, it would be nice if all the activities were open, But, we still found lots to entertain the kids, including a fab outdoor playground.
It’s free and a good “reward” for the kids making it through the week-end market.

We needed to show our passports/photo ID to obtain a wrist band each for our visit. There are so many activities here with a variety of age groups. Our 2 year old grand-daughter started in the sandpit, went to the slide and swings and then enjoyed the climbing ramps. I had originally thought she would like the dinosaur bone dig but it was a hot day and I think this is for older children. She would have loved the water play and pool but we hadn’t brought swimmers and we would have never got her out.
She loved the monkey bars which were just the right height for her to start using with her feet off the ground. There were shade clothes and we could take it in turns to supervise.
There are a variety of spaces for art, music, library and there were some school children participating in activities – what a wonderful learning space.
Ideal for toddlers is a large indoor area for 0 – 3 year olds which was air-conditioned and had amazing puzzles, construction and a huge plastic vegetable garden and a mountain of soft toys including a Gorilla . One adult only allowed with a child and both required appropriately to take shoes off.
After two plus hours of fun and interacting with other children (play is universal) we headed to MIXT (a suggestion from a German family) to try the coconut icecream.
TIP: Bring photo ID, water, hats and swimwear and a change of clothes. As it opens at 10am consider enjoying seeing the parks nearby in the cool of the day.

The positives are:
Close to metro station
Free
Lots of activities for big and small children
Staff in the dinosaur exhibit are friendly.
Negatives:
Hard to find entrance, we tried to walk through the park but there is a big hate around the park so long hot walk to find the entrance .
Lots of areas closed for cleaning or repair however they were dirty anyway, for example, mould all of the splash pad, bad smelling buildings.
90% of the staff do not really interact with children unless they are telling them off. There were about 100 people working there, constantly following and watching your every move. Even following into the bathrooms.
You have to take your shoes off the second you walk near an activity, staff are very aggressive with this.
I put my son down inside the 0-2 room, he ran off to play, staff were yelling telling us to take all our shoes off, my son was wearing black socks that might have looked like shoes. Staff were yelling at my husband and I to take our shoes off while yelling at my 1 year old for his socks. Very stressful.
Staff run at you to when you approach a building to tell you to use another entrances or that cleaning is in progress. So not even let you get close to signs to read them.
I was 90% of the walk towards the lift then told to use another walkway, as it’s one way, I felt this was unnecessary with my son already waiting at the lift. I wasn’t allowed to go to him, staff very aggressive and pushy, very intimidating, wouldn’t let me past. There are lots of signs but mostly in Thai so easy to do the wrong thing. Even if there is English on a sign you can hardly get close enough to read it before staff and pushing you away.
We were worried that we would be yelled at whenever my son touched anything, disappointing when it is advertised as a place where children can explore and discover.
My husband I I felt very uncomfortable.
I get that there are rules and people are doing their jobs but there is a nice way to interact with visitors. No need to be so rude and strict.
It was a very negative experience and big waste of time for my husband and I.
This behaviour is very different from what we are used to in Australia. I wouldn’t recommend this to Australian or other western visitors.

Service provided is matching with entrance fee (free)
They organize all activities by time and it was difficult to make all in the same day. The schedule may be revise to provide more play time to kids. All activities close at the same time for cleaning. However, kids enjoyed the museum.

Absolute tip if you are in BKK with children.
You can spend hours here for free (just show your passport). Lots of activities that are in Thai but are easy to understand. At least the idea is clear. Some of them are multimedia (throwing away CO2 with balls, 4D cinema with a film about environmental pollution in BKK etc.), but there are also just as many things to touch, build and try out (cooking course, building areas, excavation site etc.).
Outside there is a small stage, playgrounds and a small water park (bring your swimwear).
The staff are very cheerful, many languages are very good in English.
There is no food or drinks to buy there, but there is space to eat your own food. So stock up well beforehand.
We were there spontaneously and ended up spending almost 4 hours there.

‘Kidzania on a budget’ as the elder child put it. In a good way. Traveller with small child under 5, and was pleasantly surprised by how many activities there were here. Loved the airplane, fire engine, vegetable farm and the outdoor climbers. Bring passport for foreigners, and get a wrist tracker. And you’re done. Totally free, and staff were not unfriendly or harsh at all per some reviews. Good mix of outdoors play and cool aircon indoor ones (we came between 1130 and 2pm). Each zone resets on the hour: and you have to wait, so do check map and l think ahead which ones you want to catch. Bring water and drinks.

Not many westerners know of this hidden gem for young children, but I’d say this is the number one thing to do with children on a hot day (so every day) in Bangkok.
The paddling pool is a downright hit, and our two young children absolutely loved it. The sessions are once per hour with a 30 minute cleaning slot in between. No reservations needed, just show up at the gate of the pool.
There’s plenty of shade to escape from the sun and a kids show (in Thai) as well. The best thing is, that it’s all free!
Do note: there were no restaurants, so bring your own lunch (there’s a 7-11 in Mixt Chatuchak opposite the road). There are plenty of picnic spots in the shade.

We had seen good reviews of this place - plus sides are that it’s free, big and clean and air conditioned but almost all the exhibits are only in Thai so sadly there was almost nothing interesting for us as we don’t speak Thai. Looks a nice place for Thai speakers though. The playground outside looked great but sadly it was fenced off when we came. There was an art room my kids did some activities in but we could have been anywhere

Staying in Bangkok for a month with two young kids, ages 3 and 6. Thought this would be good for a morning activity for us all. Unfortunately we were disappointed. We arrived pretty much when they opened and found a lot of staff congregated at the front desk, felt a little awkward. No issues here, just a passport check and we were given our wristbands.
After venturing through, we decided to enter the first building on the left just before the water play area. We were turned away as a member of staff said it wasn’t open until August time. We then entered the dinosaur area past the water park which wasn’t bad, quite small and most interactive parts were not working. In fact, this was apparent in most of the other areas. We found majority of staff just sitting around talking to one another and not at all interested in interacting with us. The kids had a go at the Lego building which was located in the main building on the top floor. We found the lady who was managing this area to be literally watching over us and tidying shelves as we were using things. She then said our kids couldn’t build up on a wall that was already around the outside of the area.
It was almost like going into a relatives house who suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder whereby you couldn’t touch anything without having it quickly put back the way it was.
The outdoor water play park was fun for the kids but they soon got bored and agitated when they constantly were told they couldn’t do or touch things. Same with the outdoor play area. The staff need to brighten up and interact with the public instead of sitting around not doing very much.
We wouldn’t recommend it to any family with curious kids. And we wouldn’t return. It was a wasted journey for us unfortunately. The only positives was that it was free entry and the outdoor bits were OK.

Hi, The Childrens Discovery Museum has a lovely outdoor play area - our children loved it here. Just remember to take passports as it is needed to enter the park, even though the entrance is free.
