Yup, this is definitely the cheapest bar I've been to in Bangkok. However, it's more like a tiki bar in the middle of the sidewalk. There are two rules to the bar 1. Don't drink outside the coloured chain/rope and 2. only number 1 allowed in the toilet. (The bar lovingly calls this "lady pee only"). Only go here if... More

I read so many good reviews for this pub that I thought I would give it a try. The place is OK but nothing extraordinary, the beers are not too expensive but as to label them "cheap" is I think a bit of a stretch. There are other places in the area that will serve drinks in the same range... More

Nice little bar on soi11. Beer is cheap compared to nearby bars. Furniture is unique, decor is outstandingly weird, train set with train going around. Nice bar, worth a stop over if your in the area.

A very special place with charme. You don't meet the standard tourist - more expats than others. A must if you're around - unfortunately the City government plan to build one more of the expensive condominiums exactly on this pace..... so thet will take it down soon :-( Visit as long as you have the chance to!

As the name suggests, it is dirt cheap. Visit for a casual drink. The crowd is pretty chill and mostly European. Closes by 9 P.M.

We (eight of us) came to Cheap Charlie's after reading the reviews. It is an Australian themed street bar. We found it to be a great street bar to have a quick drink or two. As the name stays, yes it is very cheap. A Gin and Tonic is the same price as a beer... 80baht. That said, when we... More

After such good reviews I was expecting a great atmosphere. There was no atmosphere the barman was very unpleasant and unhelpful, the only things having a good time were the hundreds of Cockroaches running around the bar and over glasses that were being used for people's drinks. It was very dirty with cats roaming around your feet. Had a swig... More

It's no exaggeration to say that I made my recent trip to Bangkok specifically to visit Cheap Charlie's before it's rumored closure next March. I've only heard about how iconic it was among the expat community, and so I had to see it at least once before it's gone for good. Simply put, this place is as bizarre and as... More

Staying in Sukhumvit

Neighbourhood Profile
Sukhumvit
With a mix of shopping malls, hip bars and food stalls lining both sides of Thailand’s longest road, you’ll rarely encounter a dull moment along Sukhumvit. While the main road itself doesn't offer a lot in terms of entertainment, it's the adjoining 'sois' (alleys) where the magic happens. Popular spots are soi 11 for a lively night out, soi 4 for naughty nightlife and soi 21 for world-class shopping at Terminal 21. It's hard to cover everything this area has to offer in on day, so be sure to take your time. Sukhumvit is heavily congested with traffic during day and night, so getting from A to B is most convenient using the BTS Skytrain right above it.
