Ason Tole is truly a piece of old Kathmandu. It is always jammed with Nepalis doing basic goods shopping. Fortunately, very little car traffic unless the car actually lives there. Some tourist shops with the lovely Tibetan Carpets and other things, are located up tiny little wooden stairways on the 2nd floor. Many little alleys and small streets join with... More

Visit early morning for enjoying the marketplace with its street sellers. Many shops also sell excellent spices and incences. Up the road there is the metal market for brass plates and vases. Nice

Great place to experience local life and try street food. They sell everything. Take time to explore the little alleys too. From Thamel walk to the main road towards the North Face shop, and turn right at the junction. Walk all the way till the overhead bridge (don't cross to the other side of the road!), and Asan is just... More

The street are full with people, shops vehicles. So crowded that you will actually enjoy it a lot in different way. it will be a very interesting just to walk around and watch peoples activities.

Go if you like seeing the locals buying and selling their household supplies, some great photo opportunities filled with colour and vibrancy. Go early we went at 7.30am and by 8.00am onwards it was packed.

We went here to buy kitchen supplies and were so pleased we decided to go! It is a more local bizarre with some lovely temples along the streets. It felt like we soaked up a bit more of the local culture by wandering through. We didn't get hassled by any hawkers either, which we really appreciated!

It's the busiest place in whole Thamel area. So many temples are there. The most beautiful temple is Annapurna Devi temple in the middle of it.

Asan's markets sell virtually everything - fruits, vegetables, spices, grains as well as other consumer products and items. You have to walk through the narrowest of lanes - crowded and chaotic - and bargain like your life depended upon it.

Ancient historic market where you can get almost everything. You find everything over here. Small but big market.

Our guide walked us thru this exciting market on our way back to our hotel. It was so interesting to see all the local merchants interacting with the Nepalese people. I loved all the energy. Don't go if you don't like crowds.
