This was a truly memorable place to visit and stay. I can't recommend it more highly- it is a place that will stay with me for many years. You get to see the chimps being fed several times as day and you can participate yourself as well if you want :) the lunch on the island is rather expensive for Uganda but I can understand how it's not cheap to make a proper good meal on a remote island. Recommend if you wanna see a load of chimps.... More

45+ rescued and orphaned chimps have been provided sanctuary on a forested Lake Victoria island--Ngamba. Visitors can interact with chimps and join in caretaker activities. (Check you have all the necessary vaccinations before you go, we share 98.7% of the same DNA as chimps). The work of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust is impressive; as well as the... More

My friend and I had a day on our own before our chimp and gorilla tracking tour started. We learned about the Jane Goodall-founded Sanctuary for chimps which had been orphaned or otherwise compromised in the wild (snares; poachers, etc.) on this Lake Victoria island just a 50 minute boat ride from Entebbe. The Sanctuary is run by dedicated conservationists.... More

Please visit this Sanctuary. You will not be disappointed. The boat ride to the Island, with a passage of the Equator, is an added treat. The chimpanzees are heartbreakingly cute, the staff is amazing. How comforting to know that such a place exist. Please visit if you have the opportunity!!

I stayed here for 2 nights/3 days in December 2016. I HIGHLY recommend this place as it is a truly unique experience. Everything was first class from the luxury tents, food, itinerary and staff. A special shout out to Grace, John, and Paul for making this an unforgettable experience.

From home we prepared the trip for our group so that we would leave at 12.30 and get an African buffet at arrival and before visiting the animals. However, the buffet suddenly disappeared and we had to order a la carte, where the orderes had to be taken before we left with the boat. The lady at the harbour, however,... More

We went across to the island for the morning and enjoyed learning about the conservation project, the island and the chimpanzees themselves. They are powerful unique creatures and the project is providing a safe location for those rescued from hunters and pet stores. The staff are very knowledgeable and provide a real insight into conservation in Uganda, its successes and... More

A friend and I(2 adult women) spent 2 nights here participating in the "Keeper of the day" program. We had all ready seen chimps and gorillas in the wild and this was our final activity. We had no problems with the boat ride coming or going. Our tent was comfortable and in a beautiful setting. We were well taken care... More

An incredibly beautiful and well run conservation project with knowledgeable staff, gorgeous accommodations, fascinating activities, and great local food. We've traveled frequently to Uganda but never before visited Ngamba. So happy we finally visited. Worth the time and expense to meet our great ape cousins up close.
