The mountain and its legend, the pyramids and the temple chamber add up to a great site

We caught the sunset behind the pyramids, did NOT climb the mountain, but were delighted by the reliefs in the temple chamber, which are spectacular!

Not a really challenging climb, even for the only moderately fit and there are several routes you can take. The view at the top is spectacular and worth visiting both at sunset and sunrise to see the differences. There are both views of the Temple on the eastern side and the pyramids on the west. The descent is easy due... More

The climb up to Gebel Barkal is not very challenging, although might be tricky as you avoid the sandy patches on your way up. It will take you maybe 10 minutes to go up. The views are magnificent - especially during Sunset! Decent by running down in the sandy patches and be prepared to get ALOT of sand out of... More

Large field of ruined temples as well as an opportunity to climb the sacred mountain and get an aerial view of the site.

The ram heads are made with materials extracted from the famous Tombos caves and have been replaced here while they originally belonged to the Soleb’s temple. At the very bottom of the cliff, which partially collapsed over the temple, lies a room / sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Hathor; its interior is decorated with bas-relief carrying fabulous colors. You have... More

I was here in the middle of the day at the hottest time of the year. Regardless, the temple in front of the mountain was really incredible and I loved the pillar with the carved Egyptian goddess Hathor. I didn't climb the mountain (too hot) but wish I could someday.

Mount Barkal is one of the most beautiful places you could visit in Sudan. Some people would get a bit tired climbing the mountain but it is worth the climb (Climb Level: Very Easy). You get to see the nile, palm trees and the villages built on the nile.

worth the car trip from Khartoum....hike the mountain preferably at sunrise and enjoy the magnificent view of the Nile and from the valley with his pyramids .....advice is to arrive day before and stay at the boutique hotel nearby ..the Nubian house ...just few hundred meters from the temple...it's a wonderful place in itself

Gebel Barkal ( also called Jebel Barkal) is a massive mountain that looms in solitary impressiveness over the Nubian desert and the ruins of a stunning temple. Egyptians and Nubians believed this was the true home of the god Amun and built his temple here. We stayed overnight in a nearby village house and watched the light change on the... More
