We visited the Independence Museum in Windhoek. We found it interesting to see the history of the peoples there and their struggle for survival and independence first from Germany, then from South Africa. Sam Nujoma figures prominently in multiple displays, as he should given his great contribution to Namibia's current situation. We thought this museum was more of a natural... More

I really felt the country history was all about President Mujoma and SWAPO. I feel it should be balanced with economic and other social history. I enjoyed the beautiful Windhoek views from the museum. A place to visit to learn more about Namibia. The restaurant is beautiful as well and offers good views of the city.

Great way to learn about the history of Namibia and it's people pre and post independence. The museum is divided into 3 floors and a restaurant on the 4th floor.

It is important to have some understanding of Namibian history to appreciate this museum, but it is well worth the visit. It is spread over three floors (with outside lift).

The museum provides and eye-opening view of the history of colonialism in the then South West Africa and the future Namibia. However, the exhibits could do with much more explanation for those who do not know the country's history. Some exhibits just assumed you would know the background. But it is early days for the new state and I hope... More

Everyone should visit this museum. It is well done but did think there was a lot of empty spaces. Maybe this is because the museum is still quite young and they are still putting things into it. There is a lovely restaurant on the top floor with magnificent views over Windhoek

This museum is mainly based on pictures and large paintings. They take you to a small journey along the history of Namibia. Museums are not my must-sees while traveling, but I think this was an interesting visit.

This museum should change its name to "independence museum" because that's mainly what you'll find there. Sometimes information is overwhelming and you feel you needed more background. Luckily, I visited it with a local person who could explain the interesting facts. But the best was going to the top floor, where the restaurant is, and stepping out to the terrace:... More
