best bird sanctuary in Mauritius. Good place to watch migratory and local birds, good photographic spot.

I was there at the wrong season but it's certainly an important bird area and I'm glad it's there. There's a telescope area in the building's upper floor, and a hide out on the river mouth.

The sanctuary is on the west side of the island. If you go there during the winter you can observe different migratory birds. There is a wooden lookout which makes it easy to take photos and not to be bothered by the sun. Make sure that you go there at low tide when the birds come to pick up their... More

I don't understand the poor reviews from others on this site. It is easy to find, with big brown signs as you drive through Port Louis. The reserve itself is small compared to British/western standards, with just a single hide but the warden on site will escort you, take his telescope, and show you the birds present. For an island... nothing much here to see or do....the staff is helpful....you can see few birds with binoculars....location / access is bit difficult and not worth the effort....
