A tremendous number of vendors offer a variety of locally made products. Embroidered baby pj's are in the range of about $15 for a set; marquetry wood trays and wall hangings are about $20; malagasy solitaire - for the medium sized game table $16 (amazon wants about $110 for a similar set). Lots of carved wood.

Great and colorfull experience. You can do all your shopping there. Just be careful with jewelery, cameras, purses etc. like everywhere in Tana.

You'll find everything you could wish for at this market: wood carving, clothes, fossils, petrified wood, minerals, in everyform and size. I spent a couple of hours here. People are very friendly, but remember to bargain :)

The market mainly sell handicrafts, stone, woods and T shirt. They mark up the price very much, make sure bargin the price. For example T shirt ask for 30000 to 40000Ar, I brought it 10000 to 15000 Ar. It rwally worth a visit. However, better to have local people or go of people fo with you.

This was a fun shopping experience, but I wish I could have spent more time there. I was looking for a metal sculpture of a fish like the one I'd seen in one of my hotel rooms, but there wasn't one available. I settled for a chameleon instead. Negotiating in French and figuring out ariary vs. USD was challenging. If... More

This market is fascinating. The small stalls run for as far as the eye can see. The goods are all made in Madagascar and they are beautiful. Seldom have I found so many interesting and unique handcrafted items. Of course, the baskets and leather work are amazing. But I especially enjoyed looking through the variety of polished stones. The marquetry... More

The craftsman market of Andravoahangy is just a little out from the centre, it seems further as the taxi gets stuck so often in the crowded streets. There are just too many people trying to earn a little so they impact badly on the general commerce of the city. However once your guide threads the way through the many aspects... More

The whole city is a huge market . The open air markets are very much a live with a large amount of sellers and buyers . The only weak point in all of these are the pickpockets ! You must be alerted all the time . This is a development of the last 6-8 months !!
