This is a must-see if you visit Accra! The experience of walking in the crowdy 'roads' within the market is great and something you do not see at home (the Netherlands).

What I liked about the markets in Accra was that you COULD find honest-to-goodness legit local products which is refreshing BUT beware, there is plenty of stuff that was made in China (labels cut off) and plenty of mass market things. Look for original items.

Makola is always lively. There are great buys to be found. Don't park in the lot across from Makola. It's likely you'll have issues with your car being damaged.

I went to the market to buy suya powder for my mum who is Ghanaian but back in England. It was a great experience and there's so many things going on there. It took us a while to find the suya powder and we had to ask a lot of people for directions. One thing I found is that if... More

I enjoyed going to the market. I felt safe even though I was alone. I'd advise you act like one of them so they don't cheat you. I mean, be smart with the prices in the market.

Went there recently and it was disappointed since it was closed for renovation. It was also raining heavily so there were zero venders in the street outside....

The biggest market in Accra, Ghana's capital city, Makola Market is at once a shopper's delight and nightmare. Delightful in the early morning, nightmarish from mid-morning onward. Traffic is comparatively light in the early morning; and, that makes shopping at and being around the market delightful. Because the market nestles in the heart of Accra city centre, one gets to... Definitely one of my favourite places. Love the bustling and hustling of the people and even the way they make each other laugh. Be prepared to go into a crowd of people and saying excuse me a lot. You can negotiate any price you want if you work harder. Definitely worth a visit

Busy crazy fun. Wear your walking shoes. Hire someone to carry your shopping. Be prepared to be blown away by the crowd and the things for sale.
