Which is not to be sniffed at in a boring place like Praia. The good thing is no hassle. In fact if anything I felt under hassled! Not a massive market or even a big market by any means, far larger in The Gambia, Dakar and Nigeria in my experience. Colourful, cultural, and forgive me for playing the London card... More

In and outside the marketplace you will find food, vegetables, clothes etc. Even a basket with live pigs! Salespeople are not irritating and give you a chance to look around.

The place is so colorful, full of merchandise and curiosities that you will risk to feel "dizzy"! :-) It deserves a visit and some purchase even though the goods are not really cheap. The Praia food market is in my opinion more characteristic and attractive, though.

Sucupira Market is a nice place and wasn't as crowded or hot as I expected from a big market like this. We went around 2pm in the afternoon on a Saturday (New Year's Eve though) In fact the streets around were much more busy than the market itself. You can get anything here I'd say and it's also a good... More

Strangely enough, none of the tourist books mentions the Sucupira-market and even the tourist guides in Cabo Verde seem to hide this market. It's a large square beneath the Plateau and you can get there by the connection road at the West or walking, taking the stairs from the plateau. The second option is the coolest, as you stroll down... More

Lots of unique items to Cabo Verde, with good prices. Also services like making clothes to order. Has all the usual things found in markets. Definitely worth visiting more than once.

I had never been to an African market before. I took a taxi from my hotel to Sucupira (never more than 200 CVE--about 2€). I loved it! Perhaps one can bargain, but I thought I'd read that bargaining was not acceptable, so I didn't, but prices were reasonable enough. As a person who walks with a cane, the cobblestones made... More

I loved this place. It's really wworthy a visit. Located in the plateau, it's a colorful fruits, vegetable and meat market, plenty of life. Fruit and vegetable stalls looked incredibly beautiful. Veggies are fresh and the market it's clean!! Loved to see all the women dressed with the typical colorful clothes from Praia.

This market has everything inside. It's very large and may intimidate the inexperienced foreigner. Some goods can be bartered. Not too pushy; businesswomen will ask for you to step in their stores to just take a peek. I recommend taking a look at prices or asking around first before settling, to be sure you pay a fair price. Fruits and... More
