- trivia_timHelensburgh, United Kingdom23 contributionsNot really worth the entry feeThe kasbah has been 'restored' and is now open to the public. Our family ticket cost 300 DH, which was in addition to the 400-odd DH cable car fee. There's very little inside, other than a few walkways and some signs (in Arabic, French, and English) giving little decriptions of what it was like there before the 1960 earthquake. Unless you're really into history, just view it from the outside and save a bit of money.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 February 2024
- MarcandLauraBKirkby, United Kingdom695 contributionsAn Arabian DreamA must see. Go up in cake car £180MAD return and go up at dual to watch the sunset. Thought there would be more sellers up there by it it's just nice. A few camel and pony rides are available and a little shop with a pop coffee machine (no milk). A great place to visit with great viewsVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 February 2024
- oldwebbyLeigh-on Sea, United Kingdom47 contributionsKasbah well worth a visitMy daughter and I walked along the promenade from the Tikida Dunas hotel to get a cable car up to the Kasbah. 240 MDR for the both of us which I thought was good value, that’s about £18. We had a car/pod to our selves. Amazing views and nice and cool. We also went into the Kasbah which was a further 180 MDR also good value. Amazing views and explains the history of the kasbah as you walk around. Definitely worth a visit. Only thing I didn’t like was that there were camels and little ponies up there. All of them looked well looked after except for one tiny little pony that had a tether round it’s neck, so short that it’s head was bent and it couldn’t move. A little bit more rope would have made all the difference. It was quite distressing to see and we weren’t the only people that were commenting on it., but as I said the others looked fine. The staff were all very nice and extremely helpful. Great day, would definitely recommend this for a trip outVisited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 May 2024
- Tracy MNottinghamshire, United Kingdom199 contributionsWonderful views. The cable car is the best way of accessing the Kasbah (although there is a walkway and people trekking up also, and cars/taxis can drive you to the top). The cable car cost 120dirhams return per person, and the views on the ascent and descent are beautiful. Our hotel recommended visiting in the evening to see the sunset over the sea, which was stunning. However, the Kasbah itself is only open until 6pm so we did not see inside the walls (although information boards suggested ruins inside rather than a reconstruction of what was there before the earthquake in 1960). Worth visiting for a lovely stroll and the views, but there’s little else to do up there (some small stalls and option to do a camel ride or donkey ride).Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 June 2024

Interesting visit to the Kasbah with many signs including photos. If you want, you can also book an online travel guide. - Tamina V1 contributionReally nice view, admission not necessaryThe view from the Kasbah was really nice. We took the cable car up there. The 9€ admission per person to the Kasbah can actually be saved, we really find a lot to discover there was not. After about 15-20 minutes we had already seen everything. Just enjoy the view from above of Agadir.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 September 2024
- BennettbrianHebburn, United Kingdom2,961 contributionsAgadir Historic SiteWorth the visit if only to see the views of the new Agadir. Also a worthwhile trip on the cable car. The views of the ports and the coastline are outstanding. There are few camels and small ponies at the top which are available to ride. The ruins of old Agadir surrounded by the walls of the Kasbah are very picturesque. A few vendors selling souvenirs are also present. On the whole a pleasant attraction.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 November 2024
- aloncinBrussels, Belgium27 contributionsTo seeAccess via cable car, the view of Agadir is magnificent, there are many explanatory panels on the role of this building in past centuries, and more recent. You also have a view of the part of Agadir that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1962. Unfortunately the visit to the Kasbah itself is very restricted.Visited December 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 December 2024

My wife and I wanted to visit the Kasbah Ruins and we decided to use the cable car as it looked like a great way to get to the amazing viewpoint. The The cable car station is very impressive and the staff were really friendly. You can book either a VIP cable car, which has extra features inside or buy just an ordinary ticket. The cable car jouney was superb and it will be even better when they have completed some of the major development projects in the area.
On arrival at the top you can only be impressed by the Kasbah Ruins - they are so impresive. In addition, you have some amazing views of an, Agadir and the working harbour. We could not belive how many fishing boats there were in the harbour.
There are a few traders at the top offering you camel rides or trying to sell you things, but they soon leave you alone when you say that you are not interested.
The walk around the outside of the walls offered different views of the area. Be aware you cannot walk all the way round and you are not able to go inside the ruins.
After taking in the amazing views we took our cable ride back, again the views from the cable car were very good. We really enjoyed the visit to Agadir Oufella and the Kasbah Ruins and would certainly recommend using the cable car to get there and back.

The restoration begun in 2020 so that this monument destroyed during the earthquake of February 29, 1960 can find visitors again is substantial
It is true that there will remain ruins designed for visits and allowing a journey back in time and various panels enriched with an audio guide enrich the discovery
The site rises to 220 m and offers a breathtaking view of the city, the bay, the port and the hinterland.

Tuesday 15th November and we took the cable car to the top of Mount Agadir where this ancient citadel is located.
Standing at the summit of the mountain at 236 metres (774 feet) there are impressive views across the new City of Agadir, it's three harbour and it's lengthy beach, promenade and surrounding area.
On the 29th February 1960, at 11.40 pm the old City was hit by an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the scale. Over 15,000 people lost their lives and 25 000 were injured.
Over 90% of the Kasbah was destroyed and buildings raized, only the southern wall survived. There are information boards around with photographs showing the horrors caused
Even today it is still not permitted to enter the Kasbah as building works are still ongoing.
Outside the old City walls have been tastefully and well rebuilt which enables visitors to walk around part of the walls and enjoy the views.
There were a few stalls up there selling souvenirs and touristic tat. Camels were also available to ride.
Along the way we picked up a self-appointed Guide, Abdul. Ñormally we would say no thanks, but in this instance we were happy for him to walk us around, he was not pushy or aggressive. He was entertaining and full of information, historic, cultural and social. He pointed out landmarks and points of interest and we did find it very interesting.
When we were leaving, he started to move away, no big push for money. We gave him about £3, it was well worth his time and knowledge, he was most appreciative.
We got here by cable car, others were on coach tours or drove some walked all the way up. Our Guide did inform us that that was an area at the top where some visitors paraglide back down.
It was a bit disappointing that the Kasbah was closed, however it was an experience and great views, we enjoyed it all.

I would love to give 5 stars for the staff at dinaland and for the ride in the cable car. It was a good price with stunning views on the way up and down.
However….after 5 minutes at the top and whilst reading the information board a man came and chatted to us, i didn’t think anything of it at first, he was pointing to the pictures on the information board and reading what i could read myself, there was no explanation of who he was, he just said that he lived there!
I walked away with my husband towards the camels as we were getting a little suspicious of him, i said thank but he followed and continued to chat.
My husband rode on the camel, i walked along with them as i didn’t want a camel ride myself. The man followed and kept talking abou the cracks in the walls!! My husband asked to stop the camel ride, dismounted and paid what he owed along with tip for both the handler and the man following us, hoping he would leave……Oh no, he stayed and continued to follow us. By now he was bothering us so we had no choice but be rude in ignoring him. (We had been looking forward to coming here to take in the views and would have appreaciated some time alone.)
He hung around making us feel uncomforable then told us that he had finished (cheek!). We offered a further small amount of tip as we had already tipped when paid for the camel ride. He turned on is, retuned the money and asked for more!! We handed the money back over and asked him to leave us alone as we hadn’t asked for any tour whatsoever! He became quite perssistent and followed us back to the enterance.
He wasn’t taking no for an answer so we had to leave!
We were so dissapointed and upset that our trip had turned out like that!
Please be aware that nobody chats for free and don’t be fooled by anyone! They just need your money!!
Also, don’t be put off as it is a stunning place! Such shame we had a bad experience!!

The Kasbah is the only remaining part of the original city which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1960, and it has required extensive restoration, still ongoing. You can walk up, it is very steep, or take the cable car, costs 80 dirhams return, enjoy the view as you travel, and when you reach the top you can walk all around it , but not inside. Some say this is because of the restoration, but I was approached by a local who was acting as a guide, and he said it was because the interior was the graves of many of the 15000 who were killed. You can also look down on a large area which has not been developed. and never will be, as it is where the bodies of so many were not recovered, but just covered over.
The view from here are stunning, you can see all over the city and the harbours, great for photos. A sucession of boards tell the history of the Kasbah.
If you are in Agadir, I think you should always visit this site, and remember the tragedy which hit this city, and admire what has arose in its place.

Inside there is a decked walkway. The site has a sort of mournful mysteriousness. Do not expect anything more than a sort of partly excavated archeological site and rubble and plants, cats and a few birds. View may be slightly better than outside the castle as it’s a bit higher up. We rented an audio guide which brought the rubble to life somewhat, although you can read most of it on the information boards. The info boards outside are also informative, maybe more so as they show how the walls were reconstructed. The inside info is more specific to what went on inside the kasbah before the earthquake and where. We took a taxi up and the driver offered to wait for us (1 hour which was enough). This was helpful.

It's a beautiful sight when you reach the top and the views are absolutely amazing. Do not waste your money taking a taxi up because anyone with the decent Fitness level can access it. Unfortunately when I got to the top you cannot go inside because it is closed for restoration work. On the grinds you'll see many vendors who will try and sell you things but I was pretty firm with them and they left me alone. It is also nice to see the camels which you can take photos with and stroke without getting too much grief. I had the pleasure of running up which was absolutely amazing from my hotel called Tildi hotel. My hotel was pretty Central which was brilliant. When you get to the top it is very pleasant and relaxing just to sit around and look over agadir. You will be told by many taxi drivers and tour guides that you will get access but unfortunately you will not be able to go inside. From my hotel to the top I did it in 1 hour as I ran up.

The gondola is expensive, however small taxis can take you up for 30dh (€3) for up to 3 people.
If you are brave, the ideal is to go up on foot but the descent on foot, although very pretty with a view of the bay, is dangerous because of the very poorly leveled stones, making you wonder if this is not intentional. ...

The best part was the cable car ride up and down. Great views on offer over the full city on the ride up and again once up at the ruins.
Worth noting that you can not get inside the walls, as was explained to me the internal is essentially a graveyard of all the people killed in the earthquake.

Unless you're taking the cable car up and back, (which is impressive) there's not much point in making the effort to visit this place, to be honest. The views of the city are great, but you can't actually access the kasbah ruins - you can only walk around the outside of the reconstructed outer walls. There's not a huge amount of information provided on the kasbah or the earthquake that destroyed it either - just a few display panels. Also, be prepared to deal with unofficial "guides" looking to attach themselves to visitors.

I read your review and I am perplexed. i have been in Agadir 2 months and see no garbage anywhere. This city is cleaner than most. Where did you see garbage?
Written 13 December 2016
There is plastic waste everywhere, it is a real mess. It is all around the city. On the beaches, on the streets. If you don’t see it you are either blinkered and brainwashed into thinking Agadir is some sort of environmental haven or you are blind.
