Our guide brought this atmospheric area to life and showed us a stunning 360 degree panoramic view over the harbour and the rest of the casbah along with an introduction to the current way of life which is being threatened by the government which is hoping to relocate the population elsewhere. There are a number of steps but we went... More

The lower Casbah is mainly impresive by the french style houses with arcades for numerous small shops. The upper Casbah is more or less original with arabian roots architecture. Follow the stairs to get there, but do not become lost in the maze. You'll reach the fort, which is also named Kasbah. But since it is to be renewd, you'll... More

This is UNESCO world heritage but locals seem to treat it more like a dumpster. What a shame, it could work wonders for Algiers if they decided to clean it up and spend some government money on restoration of the area. A potential gem, but now more like a trash can.

I wish we had a guide to actually get into Casbah and have a look. Our driver told us that its not a safe place hence he only let us take pictures and have a look on those entrance to this ancient city. It looks like Agrabah in Aladdin. Stunning! He was trying to tell us the stories about it... More

Algiers is a city of superlatives in many regards, and The Casbah effortlessly proved itself to be one of them. From the higher alleys of the Upper Casbah with its narrow alleys, historic fountains, and unmistakable Ottoman-era architecture, to the lower boulevards with colonial touches and a busier market vibe, to everything in between: the homes of those who provided... You'd think with the shrill noises regarding safety on my trip to Algiers that upon touching down at the airport, I'd immediately stop living. It doesn't matter how, death would just happen. That it did not and I am still here, seems to be quite a mystery - and it would seem that the same reputation of safety abounds around... More
