Moku'auia (Goat Island)
Nov 2019
Moku'auia Island (more popularly known as Goat Island) has no goats, but used to have goats. Goat Island is like my second home. If you are a diver and a surfer, like me, then you already know about Goat Island. But, if you are a tourist, then you probably do not know about Moku'auia Island. Most tourists know and hang around Waikiki Beach, which is great if you like "over-crowded beaches". But, if you like beaches where you are the only one, or where there are few, if any, other persons, then you will love Goat Island. Take old, junk, closed-toe shoes (you will be walking on coral) (rubber is preferred). Take drinking water, towel, beach stuff. Walk to the island. I have been taking my kids from when they were babies. Just Aloha 'Aina (love the land, and protect the land), and enjoy. Just do not trespass on private property; otherwise, you will face the consequences.

Goat Island
Aug 2019 • Friends
Three adults with water shoes went at the lowest tide we could find but the water was up to our hips at times. The reef isn’t walkable, you need to go over it as there is a strong current through there. We made it just fine and it was fun to say we walked out to an island. We then circled the little island, keeping to the trails at the outside edge as this is now a bird sanctuary. Lovely views, very peaceful. We trekked back through the rising surf and we’re very glad we got back when we did. Watch out for low tide here. Very important. It was a fun little thing to do and certainly something different! There is no snorkeling here as the current is too strong, and when we were leaving, the surf too rough.

This is an awesome experience for anyone. Here is the link to the Tripadvisor page: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g29222-d496700-r429796016-Goat_Island_Mokuauia-Oahu_Hawaii.html Have fun and use common sense when judging your ability and the surf conditions (don't forget to wear water shoes!).

AWESOME PLACE to go from Oahu~~!!
Jun 2018
Stayed at an Air BnB, and our hostess Lindsey recommended going here, and WHAT AN AWESOME AMAZING place~~!! Be sure to go before high tide at 11am or so, and you can WALK to the island off Oahu~~!! MUCH BETTER than the other Flat Island you can ocean kayak to, and it's FREE~~!! Only thing is - take a boogie board to help you balance as the Corrals underneath are massive and pointy. Also - you have to wear water shoes as it's going to be very pokey and spikey underneath your feet~~!!

Most memorable day of our visit to Oahu!
Dec 2016 • Family
We walked from the back yard of our rental house near the shores of Malaekahana State park to Goat Island w 3 adults and 4 tw/eenage girls ages 11-15. The walk across the reef requires water shoes and takes abt 10 minutes each way. Once on the island, you could spend all day lounging and playing. Very private and fun place to go. The kids wished we had gone earlier in our trip so we could have gone again!

Beautiful spot!
Oct 2016
My husband and I went to Goat Island/Mokuauia Beach on three separate occasions. The first time we were simply in awe of the natural beauty. We were also amazed at the force the waves created by coming in from two directions around the island. We knew it was far too harsh for us that day. We returned two more times to attempt the snorkeling and 'trek, swim' over to the island. Sadly, we never made it. We were simply unable to fight the forces of nature! Many people did make it \, however. We sat on the beach, ate our lunch and reveled in the amazing beauty of this place!

Get your goat on
Jul 2015 • Friends
If you are looking for a bit of an adventure, make sure you make this one of your stops! Park in the parking lot, but make sure you drive slowly, as there are LOTS of potholes. Leave all unnecessary materials locked in your car unless someone plans to stay on the beach with your stuff. Walk through the picnic area to the shoreline; there will NOT be any signs. However, there is no need to worry as you can see the island clearly from the beach. Depending on the time of day and the current, the water can get rather rocky. While most of the time the water is below your waist, at times it can get even higher. (If you are nervous, check the tide levels for your chosen day.) MAKE SURE to wear water shoes as it is rather rocky, and I'd also recommend bringing a boogie board or some other floating device. Once you've made it across the water, you will have your own deserted island to enjoy! It's a nice place to walk around, swim, or even enjoy a picnic. I absolutely LOVED this excursion and would highly recommend it.

A fun adventure
Jul 2015 • Friends
My sister and I decided to visit Goat Island this morning, and it was such a fun experience. Tips: -If you plug goat island into Google maps, it will take you to the park nearest to G.I. The parking lot is FULL of potholes, so take it slow. Walk on one of the paths near the picnic area to shore, and the closest island is it :) -Wear water shoes. We could walk the whole ~1/4 mile to G.I., and it's very rocky. -We brought boogie boards to float around because it's very pretty. Check the tide/surf report to make sure it's a good day to go! -No dogs are allowed as G.I. is a bird sanctuary. -You can walk around the island a bit, but most of it is roped off to protect the bird nesting area. -Bring a small, portable waterproof bag (backpack would be best, so you can swim hands-free) for your keys, phone, snacks, etc. I wish I would've brought a picnic to enjoy on the beautiful, peaceful island. Have fun!

Goat Island is an amazing find!
Mar 2015 • Friends
Drive to the park, walk up the beach, which is beautiful and unpopulated. At first the waves in between the beach and the island seemed a bit intimidating. But my friend and I floated over on our air mattresses. No problem. Once there we stripped off our clothes and explored the island. Total Freedom!

Amazing location

It is tough to find, but there is a park that you start from. You walk to the island. It is a little tough depending on the season and tide. Once there the white sand beach is relaxing. Fun side trip.
