The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels...

The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

This had a pretty good view but nothing really exciting. You need to pay for parking, which wasn't a lot. Good thing, if it were more I would have been mad.

A very short and easy drive up the Pali Highway from downtown Honolulu, this site gives a great view of the Pali Cliffs (a bilingual redundancy), Kailua Bay and Kaneohe Bay, out to Kualoa Point and Chinaman's Hat Island. (Mokoli'i) Parking is $3.00, paid in a machine that accepts cash (sometimes) and credit cards. It tends to cloud up as... More

The title really says it all. If you go by car you may have to pay for parking, but the attraction itself is free. It can be quite windy so depending in time of day and season you may need long sleeves to be comfortable. The panoramic view itself is exquisite. Indescribable and impossible to truly capture on camera. This... More

It was raining and had thick fog so could not see anything at first. We waited 30-40 minutes for a break in weather. The view was great to see below. But it didn't last long.

An informative stop over before driving thru the mountains way to the North Shore... As its famous description..." This is the site o the final battle of Cahu when Kamehameha used superior weapons to win and became the first King of Hawaii. Some 800 of the other warriors leaped to their death from the top of this cliff... It's a... More

in case you're anyway driving on Hwy 61 this is a nice stop (at good weather). But there's no need to especially drive there.

This place is awesome! The scenery is unparalleled and the story interesting. I've been up here when the winds are very calm, and when the winds are extremely strong. This is located about 20 minutes from Waikiki Beach and it's free. I would say it's one of the don't miss sites on a visit to Hawaii.

Parking is crowded and there is a three dollar fee which is fine but you have to walk to the front and pay ( nearest machine wasn't working) stand in line and help people get their cards to work (says it takes AEx but doesn't) and then take your receipt back to your dashboard of your car. We tried to... More
