This Highway has a lot more to offer than watching the famous Maui sunrise or sunset. With many lookout views and short hikes, its no wonder it is part of the Haleakala National Park. If you drive it in the morning, it is cooler for...More

We took the highway for sunrise and it was beautiful coming back down. On the way up, the turns made people carsick. You get a few "butt pucker" moments on curves with big drop offs but the views are awesome and you can see out...More

We drove the Haleakala Highway all the way to the summit to see the sunset. We stopped along the way at both overlooks and both visitor centers within the park. The road itself is in very good condition and is well maintained. The road travels...More

I am from Switzerland and I am known high mountains. The most beautiful was for us the beautiful, curvy road up to the summit building and the beautiful, wide view on all sides. Sunrise or sunset could be very beautiful from here! The mountain landscape...More

I know this road is completely safe, but it's still scary. Halfway up, every curve seems to head off into nothingness. I can't imagine that people bike down this road. The lower part of the road is extremely interesting passing through several different temperate zones...More

Awesome sight to see. Go in the morning before the weather rolls in. Clouds seem to build around noon and obscure the views.

Drive up to the top of Mt Haleakala and enjoy some amazing views while you climb to over 10,000 feet. Your ears will pop and you may go in and out of the clouds but often, the summit is clear and you can see over...More

This is a very scenic drive, but check the weather first. We drove up despite clouds at the top, hoping that they'd clear, but no luck. Couldn't see the crater, and as we expected it was cold and rainy - mountain weather! 75F when we...More

First it will not just be cold at the top it is absolutely artic. Dress accordingly or the whole experience is a waste of time. We had to pay $20.00 at an unmanned Ranger station for the drive up. Allow plenty of time before sunset....More

This attraction hi lights the diversity of this island . In the course of 2 hours one can go from the sweltering beaches of Maui to the bare and cool mountain top crater of Haleakala. The journey was as much fun as the destination ....More

how long of a drive is it to the Haleakala viewing point from Lahaina?

We took about two hours to do the drive to the top where the viewing point is. Actually, it is a good highway with plenty of railings for safety. We stopped on the way down for lunch.
