After being told about the sharks at La Perouse and witnessing one attack a fish right next to a couple of unknowing snorkelers, we went where the ranger and the local who had seen fish at La Perouse all morning told us to go. GO TO AHIHI! It is a black pebble beach. It is right at the parking lot... More

We visited this reserve twice in our trip with two kids aged 7 and 9. It's a bit tricky over the lava to walk to but not nothing to troubling. Our kids handled it well. The clarity was wonderful compared to other beach areas we tried where the swells were too big and the waters murky.

This is a phenomenal snorkeling site. We went twice and could have spent days here. The entry/exit are mildly challenging, as it is rocky. But totally worth it. The fish life is amazing. The corals are not as healthy as Honolua, but healthier than Molokini. The viz varies somewhat, but gets better the further away from the entry point you... More

What this is not: layout/sun tan beach. Rocks, rocks and more rocks. That being said, we went to snorkel and this did not disappoint! Beautiful, big reef that allowed for hours of snorkeling fun. Wide variety of fish. Parking was full when we got there, but multiple spots opened up within 5 minutes of waiting. Beautiful views from this location!

We got here serendipitously by continuing further along the road than planned - what a gorgeous area. There is easy parking at the 'Dumps' with a difficult walk across the chunks of lava to the cinder trail. One needs thick soled shoes - and many commented that they wished they had a walking stick like mine - but the short... More

This beach was beautiful and large. There was plenty of parking and lifeguards on site. The water gets deep from the shore very quickly. There are not amenities here that I could find (concessions, etc). There were restrooms near the parking lot as well as picnic benches. My sister and I were hoping that we would see some marine life... More

This natural area reserve is a place that we snorkeled 28 years ago, and when we came back to Maui for our 38th wedding anniversary we wanted to come back. It was a wonderful experience all over again. The drive to get there is a beautiful drive thru an upscale tourist area, that ends up in a more rural area.... More

I snorkeled here on March 7, 2017 and I really liked it. I like that it is protected, so comparing it to other places we snorkeled I felt like there was way more fish. I also noticed a lot more fish travelling in schools, which was really cool to see.

If you want to snorkel, this is the place! Turtles, tropical fish, corals, you'll see it all here. Safe for a family snorkel on a calm day.

My wife, mother in-law, and I hiked a portion of the Hoapili, or King's Trail. The road getting out there is a little rough, but not too difficult. The first part of the hike was easy enough, but it quickly became more difficult as we went along. I'm not complaining, I'm fine with a rugged hike, but you should wear... More
