As many reviews indicate, the road can be rough. But if one just heads to the restrooms, palm trees and picnic tables area, the road is not at all difficult. For those of us with limited mobility and/or advancing age, this is still a prime area for looking over the rocks, waves and surfers. There is pavement and flat land... More

Long bumpy lava road to a group of beaches. Good surf for beginner's on northwest swells. Great views of Hualalai, Kohala,Haleakala and Mauna Kea. Walking path to Sandy beach or drive right to picnic and rocky shoreline.

Kekaha Kai State Park locates at 72-3890 Mamalahoa Hwy, Kalaoa, HI, north of Kona International Airport. It has white sand beach. It is suitable for swimming, surfing (it is better to go early in the morning to get a good park spot), snorkling near reef when waves are not big, or sun-bath. It is better to wear water shoes as... The road is nice down to this lovely beach. There isn't nearly enough parking. The sand is beautiful and the waves are awesome. Had a blast with a boogie board.

Rental cars will get beat up on this road. Super rough road - fun experience if you like to off road. Beautiful beach. Stinky restrooms. Bring provisions.

Fantastic white sand beach just a bit north of the airport. Pretty easy to miss the turn, the road that leads down to the beach area. The road is located directly across from the Veterans Memorial Cemetary. There is not much of a parking area but lots of parking along the road. We went about 1:00 pm and by that... More

It was a very good beach... though in my mind not as good as Mauna Kea. The drive to this beach was kindda fun--we were in a minivan and made it without any problems at all. Just go slow and careful. Half of the cars in the parking lot were sedans, so it really is not that treacherous. We went... More

Hands down the best beach on the island. Just north of the Kona airport, and accessed by the worst road ever. Take your time, to avoid damaging your rental (you may not be insured). Better yet, rent a 4x4. There are actually 3 beaches here. I think you should drive to the beach park lot and walk along the shore... More

Couldn't wait after leaving the airport......pulled off and navigated a very rough road, just like the logging roads in the pacific NW. Slow and easy gets you there and the time gives you a chance to appreciate driving through the middle of an ancient lava flow. Porta potties at the end and a cute beach with beautiful turquoise water. Not... More

Gorgeous quiet beach! Road getting there is very rough and if you have a small car it might be difficult to maneuver! Enjoyed the view, even with the planes flying overhead! Lots of turtles! We didn't snorkel, but there were people out there! Lots of shade and picnic tables!! Highly recommend!
