Afternoon Sail & Snorkel Captain Cook Monument at Kealakekua Bay

105 reviews
Kealakekua Bay is known to have some of the best snorkeling locations in Hawaii. Board a trimaran and head out into the bay on this convenient excursion that includes snacks, bottled water, snorkel and safety gear, and reef-safe sunscreen. Throughout the tour, your captain and crew provide little-known facts about the area’s history marine life, as well as snorkeling tips for guests with any level of experience.

We came up with the Hawaii Forest & Trails group, and were able to do a little stargazing, although the weather was horrid on our day. Next time we're on the Big Island we'll definitely go up again. Wow, the stars are so bright without all the light pollution!

Suggest planning the date and time of your trip (if you have the luxury). Do a Google search to see if the road isn’t blocked by the protestors (there is no single website that tells you day to day - you just have to keep googling or checking recent reviews on TA) or because of weather conditions (yes it snows and winds can reach 130mph!!!). AND yes you need a 4x4 (or risk the rangers rounding you up and turning you back)..... With all that said - the view from the top is spectacular and very rarely can you find a spot in the US that you can drive to +13,000’!

We were looking forward to seeing the observatory. Unfortunately the government has given their authority over to a group of radicals. No one is allowed up by the new self appointed leaders. I wonder how long it will be before the protestors learn they can shut down all attractions with no reaction whatsoever from the ‘government’.

Would have loved to see the observatory however the protesters are blocking the road. Why is this allowed?

We took a shuttle to the top to see the sunset and then do star gazing. It was absolutely amazing. it was breath taking. it was amazing to see all the observatories. The view was unbelievable. It was worth the price to go up and get some explanation as to what was what. It was also worth it because the road is crazy going up and terrifying going down. Bring a jacket its cold at the top!
