Afternoon Sail & Snorkel Captain Cook Monument at Kealakekua Bay

105 reviews
Kealakekua Bay is known to have some of the best snorkeling locations in Hawaii. Board a trimaran and head out into the bay on this convenient excursion that includes snacks, bottled water, snorkel and safety gear, and reef-safe sunscreen. Throughout the tour, your captain and crew provide little-known facts about the area’s history marine life, as well as snorkeling tips for guests with any level of experience.

The Chain of Craters Road is open and well paved. There are plenty of markers showing earlier lava flows. Very few visitors because of covid so not much traffic.

It was amazing to see how man is insignificant to the power of nature. We were in awe of the beauty and destruction that resulted from the 2018 lava flow. It was an easy drive, but might be kind of boring for kids- so take a lot of pit stops and get out and climb around. Also, make sure you have drinking water with you- not many opportunities to stop for refreshments.

It was the third time we visited the Volcanos National Parc. Everytime we rediscovered the unique landscape of amazing frozen lava, craters and lava tube. Very impressed by the lava field covering the former highway. Never had the luck watching the glowing lava flowing into the ocean! Highly recommended this amazing adventure.

You just cannot miss the opportunity to drive along this road and gawk at the amazing sights, sounds, foliage, birds and LAVA on this road. I honestly believe that no visit would be complete without taking the time to rent a car (we were cruising) and spend the day here. Worth every minute.

We really enjoyed the Volcanos National Park - and especially chain of craters hiking... however, for future travelers: there is no active lava in 2020! Would recommend doing research ahead of time to understand the map and terminology of the volcanos. Go to the Thurston lava tube & enjoy the views :-)
