The Atitlan Nature Reserve is both a must for visitors of Lake Atitlan and a force in the environmental cause: Atitlan Azul. It is an extraordinary gate to the magnificent Lake Atitlan and its spectacular volcanoes. Its zip lines, butterfly preserve, trails, hanging bridges and lodgings bring you in close contact with nature. On the zip lines you fly above waterfalls, coffee groves, oak stands and the steep cliffs that guard the lake. At the Butterfly Geodome you enjoy the colors and forms of hundreds of butterflies surrounded by flowers and the sounds of water.

Humming birds and the murmur of the river accompany you while you have lunch, coffee or a drink, then you continue to explore the diversity and beauty of this natural wonder. At night, the crickets, owls and the sounds of the night will be your company in our lodging.

The Reserve supports the work of scientist and students concerned with biodiversity and environmental degradation.

I have stayed at there for 2 nights and I was really impressed by the way they integrated the ressort into the nature! I loved the mariposario! The rooms are affortable and gives you a nice way of staying nearby lake Atitlan! And you can do some cool zip lines there too!

Hike was somewhat difficult for me but I'm not in shape and was 5 weeks out from a total hip replacement.

We didn't see much only the butterfly biosphere but that was beautiful and we'll done. Many different hikes are there to see monkeys or waterfalls etc....

Great place to go for a walk, very peaceful and quiet, we had a great time. The bridges and the waterfall are an amazing view and overall it is a great place.

The Guatemalan Tourist office needs to get its act together and advertise. It is a wonderful place for a holiday. It has a long dry season, loads of historic sites, wonderful landscapes, fantastic markets and friendly people. Above all it feels safe

We didn't spend much time in the park, other than doing the zip-lining. We were kitted out efficiently even though there was a big group and then we were given the safety instructions. Although we were adults, there were young and old doing the activity and it doesn't require too much fitness to do the zip-lining itself. Once we were... More

It is worth travelling the long distance you (may) have to go to reach this wonderful lake. Surrounded by volcanoes and dotted with small towns selling local crafts, you can spend several travelling by boat from village to village, drinking coffee, eating coconuts and spending money on paintings and other souvenirs. As the sun sets, the lake changes colour and... More

I did the zip lining (the basic one, because the extreme one was closed due to wind). The staff was professional and quick (we had 2 guides for 6 of us). The zip lining itself was super cool -- I think we did 8 or 9 segments. They all flew over a high valley with awesome, unique views of the... More

If your going to zip line I'm sure this is a great spot but we went for the other features and found the place pretty dull. There was maintenance going on all over the place and that is was the only staff we saw. So when we saw a couple monkeys( far away) there was no interaction. The hike was... More

Thanks for taking the time to comment on your experience of the Nature Reserve. Indeed, we are undergoing maintenance and in some cases, like the platform to watch the monkeys, we have completely rebuilt it to make it more comfortable and safer. This work should finish in a couple of weeks. Two weeks ago we finished the reconstruction of the... More
