We had a pleasant guided day trip to this wildlife preserve. We saw jaguar prints in the mud, as it had recently rained. There are many interesting plants that our guide described during our hike along the river (Wari Loop). The only drawback to that...More

Drove ourselves from Hopkins. Last 20-30 minutes is over muddy, rutted road so glad I rented a 4 wheel drive. Relatively easy to find it, but good to have GPS as signs are not always there. The park supervisor was very helpful in providing information...More

Our family of 4 (kids 13 and 11) took the 7km hike to Twin Fern Falls in July. It was quite a climb both ways but "discovering" and swimming in the beautiful waterfall pools were definitely worth it for all! The road in to the...More

This was a significant let down. After having walked the jungle in Monkey River and how much our tour guide there taught us … our guide here was less than animated and just walked … I could have passed on this one. But if you...More

This was a beautiful park, but I only arrived to it after driving a few miles down an unpaved road. It definitely makes sense to be a tad far from traffic, given the wildlife, but it made me nervous about my safety after a second....More

Hiking/walking available for all fitness levels. Lots of birds, good information from Belize Audubon Society people on site. Look for the pendulous nests of Oropendola (aka Yellow Tails by the locals) on your way in. Time of year makes a big difference in what you'll...More

We took a guided tour from Jaguar Reef with Bernard, a local freelance guide. On the way into the preserve, he gave us a wonderful tour of the local flora, including interesting medicinal plants. From there we went tubing down the river. The current was...More

I drove down. There is a well-lit, paved option that is very scenic. It gets rainy in some areas, but nothing hard to handle.

All the trails lead back to the visitors center and parking lot so keeping things on the locked car is your best bet. The visitors center is staffed so it wouldn't be completely unattended.

The trails are well maintained and are clearly marked. It can absolutely be done without a guide. Bug repellant is highly recommended!
