We stopped to check out Government House, lots of history and stories about when the British first occupied Belize, worth checking out

Just across from the main Cathedral, Government House is in the style of the US southern mansions and is where leading figures visiting Belize stayed back when it was the capital. QEII stayed here on her only visit to the land she rules. Not a whole lot to see.

Has no business charging to see some old furniture. Not very interesting. There are way better things to do in town. Take a photo of the outside and you've got the gist.

Rich history to see and great water views. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We arrived on a day off but they let us walk through on our own without charge. So sweet.

Government house has interesting historical exhibits. Take the time to read the letters and journal entries to get a sense of colonial Belize (British Honduras). The grounds and view are lovely!

I find it amazing that structures made of clapboard can withstand the punishment of seaside weather. This place is in really good shape, whether it is old or not (it is.) The grounds are especially pretty, with hibiscus and bougainvillea. A cursory drive around Belize City will inform you that most of the wooden structures have not fared as well.

We stayed for one night at Government House before we journeyed into the jungle and saw the Mayan temples. This hotel is in the Fort Garry area; it's clean, secure and in a safe area of Belize City.

This old historic house is well worth a visit if you travel to Belize City. The local government is currently working on remodeling the structure but, you can still see much of the history and information on Belize. You will be ale to see so much more in the future but, for now there is enough to make it worthwhile.
