This was my second trip to the Museum of Belize. From the days of slavery, the Mayan, the British, the Spaniards it's all covered in this small but very educational museum. There are Indian artifacts, detailed information regarding revolts, and the history of the prison,...More

From the Mayas to present day Belize this museum presents a good amount of the history of Belize. It is housed in what used to be a prison and one senses it as the rooms are all one time cells. The samples of jade are...More

As an old prison it is already a peculiar place. Some expositions show the slavery in Belize as the Mayas origins of the people.

An interesting account of the colonial times and how hard for the prisoners in that day . The upper floor houses some Mayan and African artefacts and a selection of butterflies and moths .

Small but quaint, this museum is a self guided tour and worth every minute. A great mix of African and Mayan history and all these cultures clashing and mixing through antiquity and modern times was amazing.

The Museum of Belize is worth the visit. The museum itself has been converted from a former prison, and exhibits are displayed on two floors. The upper floor is dedicated to Maya exhibits, and the lower floors to local artists, and a really informative section...More

I'd disagree with the other posters. Belize City is not the safest place, and taking a wrong turn (even in day time) can lead you to places where you might feel insecure. Take a cab (they're inexpensive).

YES! All areas are easy to navigate, the streets outside may be trickier though
