Celebrating 15 years of operation, the museum offers a view of the history of slavery, Mayan and jade use historically. The building is the former jail. There is a display of postage stamps over several years. School groups abound and a docent provides a great many details. As with all of Belize, the people are so good and helpful you... More

I was impressed with the landscape, building and great presentation of the historical artifacts and information in this small but lovely museum. I was part of a big group, yet our guide was very informative and she - born and raised in the Southside area of Belize, did a great job. I will go back- perhaps on my own or... More

The collections are all over the place ; stamps, bottles, slavery history, currency, Maya art and info,... Its housed in the former prison and there is a "preserved" cell as well. The museum is a nice 1-3 hour activity on a rainy day or a day when you don't have a lot of time but want to see / do... More

After going to the Altun Ha Ruins we stop in the museum to keep learning a little more about the different pyramids in Belize, Central America and Mexico. They have some of the jewelry they found inside the tombs at the Altun Ha Ruins.

Needing a quick and less strenuous half day before boarding our plane to return home, we took a cab to the Museum of Belize in Belize City. Housed in a former jail and located closed to the waters edge, we spent about an hour and a half reading all the history and learning about the slavery and the mahogany tree... More

First floor of the converted prison gives you a glimpse into the slave trade & the logging industry. Second floor explores the Mayan origins of Belize. Overall, a great way to spend an afternoon...
