When I toured Lamanai, only 10% of it had been uncovered, meaning there is so much more to find in this ancient jungle site. The lodge nearby is fantastic and the easiest place to stay if you want to see Mayan ruins without the crowds across the border at Tikal, or in southeastern Mexico.

The tour guides were very friendly. The ruins were awesome. It was nice to see monkeys in the wild. The boat ride was fun. The bus ride was informative. The lunch was good, but we were limited on portions. The tour started late and due to that reason I can't give this a 5 star. We were on a shore... More

We did this tour as an excursion on a Carnival cruise and it was outstanding. It's about a 75 minute drive though each way from the cruise terminal to the boat launch, then another 20 mins or so in the boat to get to the park. Then you hike up to the ruins and the tour guides were very knowledgeable... More

It is possible to drive to the ruins and visit them oneself, but the route is some what circuitous and the roads are not the best. We therefore visited Lamanai by driving to the boat dock, and taking the combination boat trip along the New River and visiting the Mayan ruins, with a basic Belizian lunch (rice and beans, chicken,... I visited Tulum many years ago, so I was not sure if I would be impressed by Lamanai or not. But I was!! We visited on a cruise excursion, which included about an hour and a half bus ride, and and hour and a half boat ride up the river into the jungle. It was very hot and very humid,... More

This I booked through the cruise line but it's sure not to disappoint. Our 3 guides were great. I'm really bad with names but I do remember David Brown and I think Arosella but the main tour guide name I forgot, sorry. They made both the ride there and back interesting and informative. And I found out my exact birthday... More

This excision was offered on our Carnival cruise. A bus picked us up and took us to a remote location where we hopped on a fast boat and took a 1/2 ride through the rain forest. The park with the Mayan temples were well kept. Wide paths through the forest made for easy hiking. The temples were in amazing condition.... More

Took the river boat to Lamanai ruins as part of a shore excursion. Get ready for a long bus ride from port to river boat launch and then back. The boats hold roughly 20+ people and are designed to go fast and fun up the wide to narrow and twisty river. Unfortunately our boats engines failed and we sat for... More

This was an excellent tour that was made even better by our guide Elvis. His passion and enthusiasm for his country and it's history was so evident. This was a Carnival Cruise excursion that included the tour, boat ride and lunch. All three were top notch.

Our tour guides were humorous and very knowledgeable. They made the bus trip to the site enjoyable and entertaining. The site is incredible. The walk through the rain forest was beautiful, and the ruins were amazing. We saw so many interesting plants and a load of howler monkeys! Even in February it was uncomfortably warm with little breeze for relief,... More
