We rode the Rio Grande Trail from Carbondale to Basalt. Great ride, good scenery and not too difficult. The trail is very well maintained

Get out of Aspen and see the countryside! We got bikes from the hotel and got on to the Trail (very easy to find). We rode for a few hours, beautifully maintained trail and lovely scenery, of course.

Some of the bike rentals include free shuttle return and some hotels offer free bikes. It's a relatively easy 9 mile ride, mostly downhill, (I was riding a one-speed bike) to Woody Creek Tavern along the Rio Grande Trail. The ride starts off in a...More

Easy to access, not very hilly makes for a beautiful and easy trail for a hike- as I understand it goes all the way to Basalt, one can easily choose a distance that makes sense. This is very clearly a very popular bike path and...More

The trail is a rather easy bike ride. I saw lots of families. You can ride a few or many miles out of Aspen. Just remember that although the incline is gradual, you are riding down from Aspen and up when riding back.

Walking, running or biking, this trail is fun and easy for the whole family. It takes you along the river in the sun and in the shade.

For the week I was in Aspen, I was on the Rio Grande everyday. I would walk, jog & ride bikes. Clean, friendly, sunlight & beautiful scenery. Just go!!!

I'm not sure what more you could want if you ride a bike for fun. We've only ridden the Basalt-Aspen portion, so far, but would love to ride more. The part of the trail we rode had an excellent riding surface, was pretty well marked,...More

Carla, in addion to bike rental stores, Aspen now offers Bike rentals in many points of the town ; those ones you just slide your CC and go. Great bikes, and rates are very affordable. The drop off place does not need to be... More

We rented our bikes (and subsequently bought them, since we come every year and have a residence interest at the Ritz) from Four Mountain Sports. The rental and subsequent purchase were quite reasonable. (970) 920-2337

It's about 9 miles if you are picking up the trail at the Basalt high school. Might be a little less if you are taking the spur trail from downtown Basalt and picking up the Rio Grande trail (there's a trail junction 1/2... More
