Great trail to walk or bike through the Roaring Fork Valley. It's paved, not difficult, and offers wonderful views and scenery. It's easy to stop for lunch in various towns. My favorite is Carbonbale.

Old railroad grade from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, best tackled over 2 days if you are going end to end and back. If you start in Glenwood Springs you are going uphill all the way, but it is very gradual, it took us 4 hours of cycling on a road bike. The trail head in GS will allow you to... More

This trail was nominated for trail of the year, and it should have gotten this recognition. It is a rails-to-trails conversion of the Aspen leg of the Rio Grande RR. It is 42 miles of paved trail with no vehicular traffic down the Roaring Fork valley. The scenery is spectacular all the way. We stayed in Glenwood Springs, took the... More

Whether you are walking, running, or riding a bike, this is a most amazing way to see Aspen, the Roaring Fork River, and sights down valley. I think that biking will give you the best vantage point to see it all. It is a pretty level route so however you travel the grade is gentle. Do not miss it at... More

Well maintained, well signed, gorgeous trail along the former Rio Grande railroad route. So, inclines (and declines) are gradual. It is about 42 miles from end to end, slightly uphill to Aspen, slightly downhill all the way to Glenwood Springs. You will get off in Carbondale and go down Main Street to pick up the trail on the other end... More

Friday morning. We'd heard you could bike along the river from Aspen to Basalt. We heard wrong. Renting our bikes from Basalt Bike and Ski (very helpful, very good bikes), we headed out. Only the first 30 minutes was scenic and by the river. After that, you're going through lots and lots of open, flat scrub land, past a junk... More

We've ridden this 15mi trail many, many times from Aspen to Basalt. It is downhill from Aspen and takes you next to, then up above and along the Roaring Fork River all the way to Basalt. It is a challenging ride back, because you face into the wind (good exercise, but work), so if you aren't up for that, you... More

We rented bikes from Four Mountain Sports located in Aspen and Snow Mass, Colorado. We picked up the Rio Grande path in downtown Aspen and rode to Woody Creek. It was mostly a downhill paved road so an easy ride. At times I was speeding down the mountain. Anyone can ride this bike path just be prepared for riding along... More
