One of my all-time favorite spots in Aspen. A beautiful small sanctuary where the roaring fork river and small estuaries connect...take a stroll and read all over John Denver's gorgeous poetry (songs) engraved on large rocks, sit on the lawn and read or write, listen to the river rush by...

Pros: A very beautiful and moving tribute to the late John Denver. The Fall colors were amazing. I imagine the Spring would be even better! The drive from Aspen to Colorado Springs (Hwy 82) was breathtaking! Cons: Road construction down Main Street made it difficult to maneuver. It was somewhat difficult to find (GPS can only do so much) as... More

The John Denver Sanctuary was an unexpected find when we visited Aspen. The grounds are very pretty, with open areas, flowers, ponds, and various rock formations. There are a number of rocks that have some of John's more well known song lyrics on them, which lead to us singing or humming a number of songs as we walked along. The... More

I love coming down to The John Denver Sanctuary. Been going for years, and yet, each time I am moved by the quotes on the rocks, the river slipping by, and quite often the solitude. A place to regroup, and be quiet. I often leave in a calmer place than when I arrived.

This special place is easy to miss, since it's tucked in behind Rio Grande Park in downtown Aspen, but it's SO worth the effort to find it. I've visited in all seasons, and it's great, but it really shines when there isn't any snow cover and you can read the stones, beautifully etches with Denver's song lyrics. There is a... More

Heard about but unfortunately closed in winter. Nice walk in snow, beautiful trails and rocks with Denver lyrics. Very enjoyable and just outside downtown. Easy walk.

Peaceful garden, you can stop and reflect upon John's songs inscribed on boulders. Just beautiful. Gentle pathway, not all inscriptions on boulders would be wheelchair accessible close up but can be seen. I've been in the summer and now in a cool Nov late afternoon. Serenity. Esp great after 2 full days of work!
