- jackandkennon kUnited States20 contributions#MLK #UNITYOn these hallowed grounds, it’s only fitting to have such a marvelous display of a man that stood on the shoulders of giants and accomplished so much during his lifetime. Sharing this experience with family, made it all that much more meaningful. This is a must see memorial site, plan for ideal parking in advance and wear some comfortable clothes and walking shoes for touring the National Mall.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 21 December 2022
- anderson213Hannibal, Missouri808 contributionsPowerful Monument to a Great ManThis is a dignified and empowering monument by Lei Yixin. Incredibly, the entire project cost $120 million; the vast majority was raised through donations. I particularly liked the small water features around the statue.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 June 2023
- AlexanderDJackson, New Jersey4,612 contributionsPowerfulWe stopped here after visiting the nearby FDR memorial. We were glad we did so, too. The MLK memorial is well-conceived and executed, a powerful and striking memorial. The statue looms over you and looks across the Tidal Basin to the Jefferson Memorial. I’m sure this orientation is deliberate and one can contemplate its meaning. This is definitely a must-see in DC.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 July 2023
- Raintree_ThailandBangkok, Thailand3,777 contributionsStriking and imposing! The Martin Luther King Memorial includes a huge 30-foot stone statue of King standing in an imposing manner and looking not particularly calm. Personally, I don't think the statue conveys the philosophy and attitude of King. Undoubtedly, many people will find the memorial as presenting a "strong" image, but for me it was too harsh.Visited August 2023Travelled soloWritten 30 August 2023
- A Midlife AdventureDursley, United Kingdom1,313 contributionsNot as impressive as I had hopedI liked this memorial to the great Martin Luther King but it didn’t make me go “wow” which actually felt a little disappointing compared to all the others we looked at. Try and ensure you enter into this space through the two large pieces of granite which symbolise “ the mountain of despair” because you are then greeted by the statue itself which is a 30 ft effigy of the man himself. Additionally there are 14 of his most famous quotes on the inscription wall behind.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 September 2023

Stunning work of art and a fitting tribute for a man who is fitting to be remembered with such a tribute. We visited on a night tour, and coming through the mountains of despair, it actually does block off all sound and sight before you break through to the memorial. Just was amazed at the ability of the artist to work in granite! It also helps to go at a time there, or not so many other tourists visiting so that it is quieter and more reflective.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 September 2023

Beautiful to the great MLK. Located near the Tidal Basin, one of the best areas of the city to walk. Worth spending a few minutes

My absolute favourite memorial / monument in Washington. The architects did a great job in creating a wonderful atmosphere around the statue. Absolutely beautiful and a must see.

After a long walk, coming here you can sit in the corner and watch the statue and remembering the greatest impact he led to American society was an achievement.

How much are tickets for admission, if any and how is the parking?
joefocht53
Tamarac, FL937 contributions
The admission is free. The parking is limited and it is meter parking. I might suggest using the underground Subway to get around. Traffic can be trying. Since you are going to DC I might suggest the African History museum. Contact them ahead of time for tickets. They are free but not a viable on the spot. If you know a veteran they do not have to wait in line.
