As an avid fan of zoos, and having visited dozens around the world, I can honestly say that this is the worst. The animals are few and far between, the zoo is horribly laid out, and the overall time spent here would be better spent at a nearby museum.

This zoo is laid out so all the exhibits are accessible from the main path. It is very family friendly and gets very busy from mid morning (10/11), particularly at the weekends. If you want to avoid the crowds go early and midweek if you can, we arrived at 8 when the park opens. This time our focus was on... More

I love the national zoo, it's free, it's big, it's beautiful, and there is a lot to see. I especially love the panda bears, they are stunning. The only thing missing is koalas and kangaroos

I am an aficionado of zoological gardens. Compared to the San Diego Zoo, the NY Bronx Zoo and the Chicago Brookfield Zoo, this park in our nation's capital is pretty mediocre, except for the great panda exhibit. It was a blast to see Ling-Ling and Bao-Bao. The park docents are well informed and helpful. Unfortunately, many orders of animals are... More

I am trying not be biased as I live in Columbus, and they have an amazing zoo...but this trip was so bad I didn't have to try hard! Yes, this zoo is free - but if you are paying $22 to park (we didn't, we found free street parking on a Sunday and walked 3 blocks) and only get to... More

I took my daughter to Zoo today and was very disappointed. Workers did not seem like they wanted us there. Very little to see. After all the talk about the Panda's they were no where to be seen. There are a lot of smaller towns that gave better zoos.

I visited the National Zoo with my 30 yr. old son. We had an amazing time. The zoo is very pretty. Even though we went in January the area and trees were still beautiful. The zoo is on various hills so you walk along these amazing trails and see the wild life in their natural habitat. I was kind of... More

I went to the zoo with the intention of visiting the aviary. Sadly, it is closed until 2020, as I learned from an 8-1/2" by 11" sign (after I had committed to the parking). There was no mention of this closure on the zoo website. The clear expectation is that the visitor is there to see the giant pandas. To... More

It was a cold, dreary, misty day at the National Zoo, but we still had a great time! Our first stop were the Pandas, who are located right near the main entrance. They were napping and adorable, housed in an excellent, expansive indoor exhibit. The solid glass walls made viewing easy no matter how many people were in front of... More
